The staff were really nice, and our room was clean with a comfortable bed. We appreciated the extra pillows and blankets, and the location sits about midway between the beach and the outlets. My kiddo needs a dark room to sleep, but the curtains didn't reach the floor. Parking lot lights crept in, so he didn't sleep and then woke up early. We brought a noise box, so I can't say whether the hallways or other rooms were loud. The freezer didn't get cold enough, although the fridge worked great. The pool and hot tub weren't working, and neither was the beautiful water feature out front. Don't expect much from the “Continental breakfast”: it was muffins and a banana, plus standard Lipton tea and coffee. It's not a horrible place, and probably would've been fine if we'd brought blackout curtains.

The Palace's low rating and reviews had prepared me for a mediocre hotel, but I wanted to try one night myself. The website was very user-unfriendly when I booked, and although the exterior looked fine, the lobby felt like a trip back to 1990. There was no breakfast service, just a tray of muffins on a lobby table and one shared coffee machine. Instead of removing the “Continental Breakfast” sign from the adjacent room, they covered it with paper. Another sign was covered the same way, as one of my photos shows. To me, that points to the same lack of attention to quality I noticed elsewhere. My assigned room was filled with furnishings and patterns from the 1980s or 1990s. The bed, carpet, both sets of drapes, the window covering, and the decorative strip along the wall all had different patterns that didn't go together. One of the four dresser drawers was missing its pull, and faded “ENERGYGUIDE” stickers from 2008 were still on the fridge. There was no in-room coffee maker. The bedside lamp had no switch, and neither of its two cell charging ports worked. The sink was in the bathroom, so it was hard to use when someone was in the shower or toilet. When I turned the shower on, water backed up in the tub because the drain was clogged. The shower head was loose and sprayed water onto the upper wall, which was discolored by mold and had drywall tape curling away from it. The only staff member I saw during my whole stay wasn't friendly. No smile or thank-you, just a check-in and my room key. With all those problems and the low rating, I still thought The Palace charged too much, likely for being near D-lake/river, the outlet mall, and other nearby services. The hotel's replies to reviews also seemed repetitive and robotic, not genuine. Past customers have raised the same complaints for years, and it didn't look like anything had changed.

The decor and furniture made me feel like a princess, and the location and price were amazing. I only gave it 4 stars because it had no hot tub or pool. Those amenities had been removed from the hotel's site, but Expedia and other sites still listed them.

After my husband and I drove 13 hours to the coast, we needed a room at the last minute and had no reservation. Nathan on the night shift and Noah on the early morning shift were incredibly kind and helped us get one. The place is quirky and unusual, but our room was clean and comfortable, parking was plentiful, and the muffins in the morning were really good. The coffee sucked. Thanks to the staff for their kindness and good service.

The room was clean and in order, and the front desk was attentive and friendly. It's a cozy little place to stay when visiting the beach or casino. I'd recommend it to visitors and locals alike!
