The night staff were genuinely kind, and the location is handy, with a lovely beach and a fantastic restaurant next door. But the photos online set us up for a different stay, and we felt bamboozled when we arrived. The rooms were stuffy with little airflow, there was no hot water, the utensils were dirty, and the doors had broken locks. There was a paint smell, too. With young children, the unscreened third-story windows were a real worry. Management was hard to reach, and trying for a refund would be a waste of time, based on our experience. It might be a cute place if you’re a college kid or teenager who doesn’t mind the problems. At my age, I’ve probably become pickier, but I don’t think it’s good value for hard-earned money. If you can stretch another $200, you can still find somewhere budget-friendly that’s nicer. As an investor, I’d be tempted if I had the money to fix the whole building properly. It could be really cute again, with that nostalgic, romantic gypsy whimsy. Maybe HGTV reads google reviews.
The staff were amazing, sweet, and attentive, but we won’t be coming back. We stayed in unit 209 Starfish Enterprise, and the view from the window was breathtaking. Inside, though, everything felt old, humid, and dusty. There was sand across the floor and carpets, dust on top of the chimney, and hair in both bathrooms. Cleaning that up wasn’t fun. The bed in the main room was the most comfortable, but the other beds and couches looked and felt worn out, and the dining chairs were very hard. The unit needs a lot of updating. The window had no safety barrier, so be careful if you have little ones. Also, the loose outlet cover for the light switch in the bathroom by the main entrance was almost coming off. I can’t imagine someone with wet hands turning that switch. The walls were thin enough that we could hear the neighbors and other noises all night. The unit was okay, but uncomfortable and very outdated.
The beach is easy to get to, and the view was the best part of the rental. We also appreciated having a kitchen and used it. The plates and utensils were clean, and there were basic pans and cooking tools. Check-in was easy, and it was simple to reach someone with questions. I’m not sure if we’d stay again. The place could use some TLC: rusty vents, missing Formica on the counter corners, and a damaged microwave door. The shower handles had to be turned toward cold to get hot water, and you had to hold the latch to flush the toilets. The supplied fans needed cleaning, and one chipboard door wouldn’t open at all.
The room smelled like a horrible ashtray and looked nothing like the pictures. When I complained, they offered to spray air freshener and said I was out of luck. The hotel was only half full, but they wouldn’t consider a discount. They said they’d never had complaints about the smell, even though I found smoke deodorizer spray, Kilz paint, and a cigarette stain on the counter. I’d never come back. The one bright spot was the restaurant next door.
The pictures for room 109 Kelp Me Rhonda on the Sea Gypsy website were misleading. We found the floor coming up, a warped ceiling fan, and dirt and grime in the sliding glass door track. There was food on a bar stool, a long black hair in the bathtub, and grime between the couch and nightstand. One living room lamp was broken and missing its switch. The furniture was very old, worn down, and uncomfortable, and the couch didn’t look like it had ever been vacuumed. We used the extra bedding to cover it so we could sit down. I’m visiting from South Carolina. My sister, who lives in Roseburg, recommended Sea Gypsy, and we brought my 84-year-old mother for her birthday. We understood that the office wasn’t open or in use because each room is privately owned. I hope you’ll share this with the owner.
