The Coho Oceanfront Lodge

We’d stayed here several times and usually had a great experience, but this time was bad enough that we may not return. We came for our honeymoon and found the romance package hadn’t been added because of a system error. The manager first just apologized, then later offered $100 off and a small bottle of champagne. They did offer to add the package afterward, but by then it was a day late, and I didn’t want to give them another chance to charge us more for something that should have been arranged in the first place. At roughly $250 a night, there was no soap in any shower dispenser, black sticky stuff on the light switches, and dead bugs on the room number. Customer service wasn’t there. Asking for extra towels always made me feel like a bother, and during a three-night stay, it would’ve been nice to get more without a weird look. They also had a promo code on the website, but it wouldn’t work once I added the romance package. When I brought that up, the manager said they weren’t accepting promo codes for that room that weekend anyway. I wish they’d offered late checkout or something more than $100 off when we were paying almost $250 a night. There was also way too much chloride in the hot tubs. My eyes and neck burned afterward, and I had to rinse a couple of times to get the chemicals off. There are plenty of other places on the Oregon coast, so probably not coming back for a while, if at all.

The lobby is gorgeous, and the whole place has an elegant, relaxing feel. Our view was stunning, and the service was excellent throughout the stay. Everyone was kind, attentive, and made us feel welcome. Breakfast was good, with a few nice options, and they also had coffee and tea. A highlight was a surprise I’d requested for my friend staying with us. The hotel arranged lovely flowers and a beautiful card, such a thoughtful gesture that meant a lot. Thanks for taking such good care of us. I’d definitely stay here again.

The ocean views and the price are what keep bringing us back. Summer nights run around $250, but in winter you can often get an oceanfront room for $99, which is a real bargain. Breakfast is a generous all-you-can-eat spread with the usual bacon, eggs, and potatoes, and the staff are usually friendly, professional, and pleasant. A few small drawbacks: parking is limited, though that seems to be a Lincoln City problem in general. There are only three pillows for two people, so you have to ask for another. And while the French press is a nice touch, the coffee itself could be better.

Room 57 felt like a leftover overflow room, tucked out of sight at the far end and away from the fire pits and other amenities. The furniture looked mismatched, there was no closet, and the whole place felt badly outdated. The carpet was worn and unpleasant, and the coffee table had chipped corners. The windows were dirty and barely opened; one screen was torn out and the other was bent. We had requested a king room with a balcony and patio door, but didn't get it. For what we're paying each night, this room isn't worth it. The photos in the ads make the place look like a palace by comparison. I'm very disappointed, and not sure we'll come back.
