Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Detroit Livonia

I’m a Lifetime member with Marriott, and this was at the very low end of what I’ve experienced with them. The rooms are mediocre, with small bathrooms and small TVs. I stayed five nights. Housekeeping cleaned after the first night, then never came again. Each day after work I called the front desk when I found the room untouched, and all they offered was more towels. Please move the smoker feeding stations away from the entrances. I had to walk through cigarette smoke going into the office and back to my room. I’m frustrated and not impressed.

The location worked well for me while my husband was at St Mary's Trinity hospital. There are several Marriott brand hotels in this area, all within 10 minutes of the hospital. The room was standard, but I liked having two window shades, one that filtered light and one blackout shade. Service gets a high rating from me because the free breakfast attendant greeted me, kept checking the food, and cleaned all the areas.

For a marriott, I’m definitely not impressed. I booked based on the reviews, but the room was small, with old furniture, and just mediocre. The hotel entrance felt old and had a stale smell that wasn’t inviting at all. The front desk staff member was so rude during check-in that I had to ask if he was OK. Our room wasn’t stocked, either. It had only one large bath towel, so I asked for more. I wouldn’t book here again.

For one night, the free breakfast was available, though we just chose fresh fruit. The price was good, there was plenty of free parking, and the hotel was pretty clean and right off the expressway. The staff were lackluster. We got very few greetings or acknowledgements when passing them. The shared spaces were relatively small: the breakfast area had about 6 tables, the lobby had no couches or lounge areas, and the business center was a hip wall with a computer and printer stand 5 feet from the front entry door. The whole place smelled musty, like an old hotel or stuffy home. Our room smelled better once we turned on the A/C.
