Holiday Inn Detroit Northwest - Livonia by IHG

Breakfast was a disappointment. We were told it ran until 11:00 a.m., but it actually ended at 10:00, so we missed it by five minutes even though we’d prepaid. That felt unfair and poorly communicated. We also had to be let into the pool each time, something nobody had told us beforehand. The hot tub didn’t work at all. We’d been told only the jets were down and we could still sit in warm water, but that wasn’t the case. The lobby is beautiful and made a great first impression, but the room didn’t live up to it. It was dirty when we arrived, with hair in the shower and visible trash, dust, and dirt. It was freezing and never warmed up properly, so it was hard to relax. The rooms also felt outdated. Most staff were polite, though a few interactions felt curt and not especially welcoming. Between the cleanliness, broken amenities, and miscommunication, the stay fell short. I wouldn’t choose to stay here again.

I usually like IHG hotels, but I wouldn’t come back here. The bed was nice, but I would have been better off at one of the express hotels. The website mentioned construction, which was fine for a one-night stay. But driving in, we found a gravel road with unknown objects in it that could damage your tires if you weren’t careful. A wrong turn took you onto even more gravel. The room had issues too. To turn on the bathroom light, you had to switch on the light by the door, which I found odd. The shower tile was peeling and looked unclean, and some mold, dirt, and grime or something of the sort flushed out when the water hit it. That was pretty disgusting. The refrigerator was dirty and had leftover items inside. I wouldn’t stay here again.

The outdated room is about on par with the service, and it’s only slightly better than sleeping in my car. Thirty minutes into my stay, I can already tell the best part will be leaving. The person on the phone lied about being able to hold my reservation without changes after weather delayed my travel by one day. Then the night desk clerk had a terrible attitude and made it clear I was interrupting his Internet videos.

We had a large number of rooms reserved recently and were hoping to use the on site restaurant and bar, but somehow they were closed, which was disappointing. The employees seemed very nice and respectful, but the hotel looked much older than we expected. In the cold weather, many rooms couldn’t keep a consistent temperature. It seemed like half our group got sick, though I can’t say for sure. People were hot and cold all night. A few fixes, including bringing back the restaurant, could bring in more business personal and add value. For now, the cheap breakfast costs extra, and the bathroom has the least amount of amenities. Those things have lowered my opinion of this location.
