The Westin Chicago Lombard

The pool is massive, about the size of three regular hotel pools, and there’s a whirlpool too. The whirlpool was small, with bubbles so powerful I felt like I was being splashed in the face the whole time. The main pool is four feet deep throughout and has no steps, just a ladder. It would have been useful to have a shallow end and steps because my little kids struggled with the ladder. For plenty of people, though, it’s probably an ideal pool. We had a king corner suite on the 8th floor, and it was spacious. The little couch comfortably slept our toddler, and we asked for extra blankets. I was disappointed that the shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner were empty. I could have called for more, but I was already in the shower, so I used the bar soap. From the view you can see how dirty and gross the rooftop looks. I don’t know if that should affect my review, but I’d expect the hotel to maintain it. The huge lobby and very tall ceilings made a big impression when we arrived. Harry Carey’s, an upscale restaurant, was to the right, and what looked like a banquet hall was to the left. There were so many people checking in that we waited about 15 minutes, but the hotel couldn’t control the rush.

I’ve stayed hundreds of nights at Bonvoy hotels as a Bonvoy Elite member, and this was among my worst experiences. There was body hair in the shower, then I found more on the pillows and sheets when I pulled back the bed. I was grossed out, though I know it can happen. I called the concierge to ask for another room, but was told none were available. I asked to move to a different room and was told no again. They offered to change the sheets, but that wouldn’t address the rest of the room being unclean. When I said that, I got no response. I said I guessed it was what it was, and the front desk hung up. That was it. We’re here for a company town hall with hundreds of rooms booked, and this is how we’re treated. So disappointing.

Yorktown Center is right next door, which made it easy to grab food or do a little shopping. The staff were friendly and check-in was simple. I stayed three days to visit family in the area and found the hotel clean, modern, and comfortable. The “Heavenly Bed” helped me sleep well every night. A great choice for a stay in the Lombard area.

I’ve stayed here several times for business and really like the hotel. The service is great, and the rooms are really nice. There’s a well-equipped gym that never seems too crowded, plus a very nice concierge lounge on the top floor. It’s right by a Target and shopping mall, so you’ve got what you need nearby.
