The room was clean and there were no bugs, which was the only good part. The ice machine and TV were broken, parking was a one way lot with no space to turn around, and there was graffiti on the shower curtain rod. The owner or manager was rude, demeaning, strange, and very unwelcoming. Even after I agreed to the rules several times, he kept pushing the rules sheet in my face and spoke to me condescendingly, as if he didn’t want me there. In the morning, despite having the room for two days, he harassed me outside about where I was going and when I’d return.

I felt uncomfortable enough to leave and book somewhere else, even though I may not get a refund. The Beacon Motel owner was rude and racist, assumed where I was from, tried to refuse service, and threatened to call the cops because of where I’m from. I felt discriminated against. He was creepy, said I could be his daughter, and the tiny phone booth sized office felt sketchy. After I gave him my name for the reservation, he knocked on the door and told me to come out. He asked for my ID and kept it for about five minutes or more, arguing aggressively that they take cash only and wanted a $200 deposit that might be returned. I asked why and explained I didn’t have cash, but he condescendingly said other people who come there don’t ask questions. I was trying to clarify because the policies weren’t clear during prebooking. When I tried to walk away, he threatened to call the cops, then said he’d give me a room at 130P. The rules and deposit communication were unclear, and the whole experience felt unwelcoming and racist. Please don’t stay if you don’t want to be mistreated and scammed.

Warning, don’t book here if you need to count on having a place to stay. I reserved a room more than 6 months ahead, then got an email saying they suddenly couldn’t accommodate us just 5 days before my trip. I was left without a hotel for an event I’d planned almost a year for, with every hotel in the area sold out. The man was rude on the phone too. I wouldn’t trust this place.

The check-in process was a headache and took a long time. They eventually handed us a contract but wouldn’t let us read it. Checking in at 3 p.m. meant paying an extra $40, and online bookings also required a $200 deposit. As soon as you walk into the lobby, the strong incense smell hits you. The manager, or older person there, was rude and acting strangely. If you have any self-respect, stay away.

A quiet, clean room and a kind, gracious owner made this a lovely stay. The rooms are neat and nicely organized, and it’s rare to find such a peaceful spot these days. The motel sits right on Pacific Coast Highway, and for the price it’s a great deal in a busy city like Los Angeles.
