The Fireside Inn

Cynthia made the stay feel especially comfortable. She was attentive, easy and fun to talk with, and knew a lot about the hotel services, the area, and things to do. She really went above and beyond to help guests have a good experience. I've never felt this at ease with hotel staff before. The building itself is beautiful, clean, and comfortable. For the price, it was worth every penny. I'd absolutely recommend staying here when visiting Long Beach, and I'll be back.

The staff were so kind, professional, and accommodating that they saved my birthday. The room was cute and comfortable, and this is the best dog-friendly place I've stayed. It's in a great spot, just off the main road, but was still reasonably quiet. I highly recommend it. The Saloon was cute too, with good food.

The room was clean, but that was about the main positive for me. The beds had lumps and dips and were very uncomfortable, so we both struggled to sleep. The door also doesn't lock itself when you leave. You have to use the bottom lock as you go, or enter the code from outside to lock it, and there isn't a clear note on the door explaining that. Check-in was a mess and took more than 30 minutes from arrival until we got into the room. The front door was locked, with a QR code for self check-in that was difficult to use. We went to the Saloon, where one employee was busy with six patrons and didn't acknowledge us for ten minutes. After filling out the paperwork, we got a lobby and room code, but the lobby keypad didn't work. We went back for help, and maintenance had to let us in through a side entrance. Breakfast was just cereal with no milk to be found, a bagel and cream cheese, yogurt, fruit, and coffee. The water tasted stale. At $100 a night, it's a motel where you get what you pay for. I think a 4.3 rating is a little generous.

The location is central and only a short walk from the beach, and I'd be happy to stay here again. I came in expecting less because I'm used to resorts, but was pleasantly surprised. It's not fancy, though the one-floor layout is convenient for accessibility. Our refurbished room was huge, very clean, and had cool modern decor, including felt wall panels. The windows opened for fresh air, and there were smart TVs. Breakfast in the lobby is pretty basic: a hard-boiled egg, Svenhards type pastry, yogurt, cereal, and coffee, so keep expectations modest. A nice surprise was that the lobby had hot drinks like coffee and tea after staff left at night, plus microwave popcorn. There's an attached saloon, but on the cool weekday we visited it had closed and wasn't serving food or drinks, which was a letdown.
