Dawn even arranged for the owner to get in touch and make sure we’d be looked after, which meant a lot on our wedding day. I’d called ahead to say around 20 people might come to the restaurant and bar afterward, and they made us feel like we had the place reserved. Our guests had a great time. The suite had plenty of room, a great bed, and was very affordable. The hotel really went out of its way for us, and we’ll always be grateful for how warmly they treated us.

The room we were given on New Year’s Eve wasn’t the one I’d requested, and the event itself was a letdown. There were no rooftop views with the cold, wind, and snow blowing around, and the DJ kept playing songs that emptied the dance floor. I’d booked about two weeks earlier after being told kids 12 and under would get unlimited drinks and adults would each get two alcoholic drinks. At the bar, though, I was told to tear the kids’ tickets in half to get their drinks, which was confusing and took time. The food was awful, from the appetizers through dessert, and I expected better for $70 per adult and $40 per child. Between that and the room cost, it wasn’t worth it. We won’t go to this event again.

The one good part of the night was meeting some really nice people at our table. The rest felt disorganized and unprofessional, and we left at 9:30. With more than 140 guests and only two servers, nobody cleared the tables, so we cleaned ours ourselves since we were beside a large garbage can. They ran out of food, and the bread arrived after we’d finished eating. People were trying to figure out what some of the appetizers were, and there was no dessert left for us. I’d been warned about the lobster bisque but tried it anyway. The warnings were right, it was awful. I got one piece of meat and had to ask for more than four carrot slices. I couldn’t eat the vegetarian lasagna either. It’s not like it used to be, and they had plenty of time to get ready.

The historic character of the property stood out, with photos showing its past throughout the building. I brought an automotive tour group here last weekend and was glad I chose it. Staff were friendly and outgoing, and the rooms were nice and well kept. We’d happily come back next time we’re in town. Thanks from Rally North America.

The kids were the reason this breakfast was worth the money. Our three grandchildren, who don’t eat much, loved seeing Santa and getting a gift bag full of activities. The adults in our family, who do enjoy a good meal, weren’t happy with the food. The bacon was great, but the rest felt like budget fare. The scrambled eggs were just piles of cooked egg, not really scrambled. For the price, it was worthwhile for the kids.
