Hilton Woodland Hills / Los Angeles

The breakfast buffet was very good, and the restaurant staff were lovely. Our first night was uncomfortable because the air conditioner had stopped working and the room got too warm. I called the front desk, they fixed it the following day, and the rest of the visit was comfortable.

The breakfast surprised us in a good way. Hotel breakfasts in the US often disappoint us Europeans, but here there was fresh-cut fruit, several cheeses, pancakes made fresh, and an à la carte egg menu with excellent omelets cooked to order. I’d only ask for more bread choices beyond plain bagels and toast. We came in August for four nights with the kids. It’s a renovated Hilton in a handy spot near a major mall and offices. The rooms are a little basic but current, with nice showers. Prices aren’t low, but they don’t feel outrageous either. Front desk staff were friendly, which matters. We thought it was worth the price and would come back.

We came to town for a family event nearby, and my sister had to change rooms three times at check-in because of the smell. I had an even worse time: several rooms had a strange odor, one smelled like cigarette smoke, and I had to switch twice when I arrived. Then, in the middle of the night, the room filled with sewage smell and I had to move again. The restaurant breakfast staff, housekeeping, and valet were great, which makes the building problems all the more frustrating. Hilton needs to deal with these structural issues. I won’t return to this Hilton. If another Hilton gives me the same experience, I’ll cancel my Hilton Honors card and move on.

There’s no executive lounge, and parking is in an odd spot, though there’s a lot nearby. Topanga mall is top notch. The rooms are a good size and fairly up to date, but the TVs are a bit old. Staff were nice and there always seemed to be plenty of them. The local restaurant was nice too. A decent Hilton.
