Hotel Portlight

The owners were very sweet, and you can tell they take pride in their work. The road outside could use a little attention, and the place is close to Long Beach. I've paid more for rooms that were definitely worse, but these rooms were really nice. The bed was clean and very comfortable, which means a lot since I'm pregnant and sleep doesn't come easily. The bathroom was big, and the shower wasn't stained or dingy.

The roads around the place could use some attention, but the customer service was great. The staff were attentive and made sure I was comfortable. The price was good, it's not far from the freeway, and Downtown Long Beach is nearby. I'd come back.

It's cheap, but I wouldn't stay there again even if it were free. The room was dirty and had bugs flying around. The road outside was busy and loud, with noisy semi trucks constantly passing. It felt unsafe, especially since the door only had an electronic lock and no latch at the top. The front desk guy was rude and pushy. I'm not sure where the five-star reviews are coming from. This is just a small strip of rooms, with no valet or jacuzzi, despite what some reviews say. The location isn't great, and there was nothing special about the room. They charged more on arrival than the online price. When we tried to cancel after arriving, the clerk said there was nothing he could do. We had to dispute the charges through booking.com to cancel the reservation and get a refund for the remaining nights. We still had to pay for the day we checked in, even though we didn't stay.

Great communication, and the staff were friendly. For a cheap stay, I'd recommend it. The room and bathroom were very nice, and it felt private.
