Seasun Hostel

I really liked the comfortable beds, each with its own light and personal air conditioning. The shared living area is cozy, and the large kitchen is nice. There’s also an outdoor pool and backyard where people can hang out. It feels much more modern than other low-end hostels I’ve stayed in, and the staff are very accommodating. Near Northridge, with the mall, food, scenery, and university nearby, it’s great for young men like me. Appreciate you, seasun!

DO NOT BOOK HERE. I got there shortly after midnight, but no one answered the door, phone, or email. I had to book another hotel and never got a refund or any response, despite trying many times. Complete BS. $300 vanished.

The kitchen was unpleasant, with dishes left piled up, and the house often smelled like old food because many tenants live there permanently. I also felt judged for driving a nice car. After staff came into my room without knocking while I was changing, management ignored my complaint, and I felt threatened for raising it. I left after that instead of staying the four nights I had booked. I don't know whether a maid is also the owner, but staff acted that way and ridiculed paying guests. I wouldn't come back. Take the negative reviews seriously, they're trying to warn you.

We spent a week here, three friends visiting from Japan. One friend shared a room with me and the other had his own. The housekeeper cleaned often and quickly, and I don't want her to get in trouble because of my review. Still, the stay was rough from start to finish. The room situation was hard to understand even after I booked. I couldn't find anything on the website explaining that the bathrooms were shared by everyone in the building, and only figured it out by reading reviews. There were just two bathrooms for the whole building, so getting to shower or use one when you needed it depended on whether another guest was in there. That's a huge inconvenience. The kitchen dishes were shared, guests were expected to wash them, and the dishwasher was broken. I didn't feel comfortable trusting dishes that people had handled and washed with old sponges from the sink. Shared shampoo, conditioner, and body wash also grossed me out, especially since I'm careful about sanitation after Covid. There were no individual toiletries. We didn't have basics like a trash can in the room or a hair dryer. Asking housekeeping for things felt confusing, and I had to get lucky and catch the housekeeper directly to ask for towels or room service. It was too hot in our building throughout the stay, while my friend's building next door was too cold, so none of us were comfortable. Privacy and security felt questionable too. Guests often left the front doors open because typing a password at each door was a hassle. Our room opened onto the backyard and had only a sliding glass door with a latch. Nothing bad happened, but it easily could have. There wasn't any food or snacks. The filtered water from the fridge tasted freezer-burned. They had free coffee, but I couldn't tell if the creamers and sweeteners were for everyone or belonged to guests or housekeeping, so I left them alone. My blanket had a big burned hole that scratched me. The bed frame was flimsy, too. Sitting down gently was enough to send the slats under the mattress crashing to the floor. It happened at least four times, sometimes in the middle of the night, and my friend had to hold up the mattress while I put the slats back. My friend in the separate room was the only one with a key to his bedroom. Halfway through the week they put a keypad on his door without telling him or giving him the code, so he was suddenly locked out and confused. He didn't speak English, so I had to keep contacting management to sort it out. It was a mess. The housekeeper did a good job keeping shared areas clean, but otherwise this was one of the worst stays I've had. I feel bad my friends visiting from another country had to go through it.
