The Boxley Place Inn

The host was so kind, accommodating, and generous. Since some rooms were empty, they let us upgrade for no extra cost. Breakfast was delicious, and the spot itself was beautiful with fascinating history. We had a wonderful stay.

We keep coming back to Boxley Place Inn several times a year and never tire of the common rooms, the historical photos and documents, or just relaxing on the porch or deck with a glass of wine. It’s elegant but affordable, within half an hour of Charlottesville, Virginia, and sits at the edge of the historic downtown, close enough to walk to restaurants and shops. The cordial, welcoming staff make you feel pampered while still leaving plenty of privacy in this peaceful setting. On our latest visit, Ann met us on the big front porch and introduced us to another guest from Virginia Beach before showing us through the beautifully appointed mansion to our ground level room, Ethel’s Suite. It had a fireplace and claw foot tub. The plush queen bed and softly filtered morning light made for a romantic stay. Breakfast was served at the large antique dining table at the time we requested. We had quiche from a local bakery, plus cereals, muffins, bagels, and all the extras. Coffee, tea, water, and snacks are also available during the day.

The room was excellent, and I was glad they’d left extra washcloths. There’s interesting art and decoration all over the property, and the staff were lovely. I only stayed one night but made great use of the room. One incredible stay. We’ll be back.

We were in Louisa, Va. for a wedding at a local venue and didn’t want to drive home on “country dark” roads after nightfall. Boxley Place Inn was a great place to stay, well maintained and full of historical charm. It’s very close to Louisa’s quaint Main St. This place offers much more than you’d get from a hotel chain.
