Orchard House B&B

Sarah and Robin made dinner for us on the porch, grilled chicken followed by a wonderful salad of greens, strawberries, goat cheese, and plenty of pecans, then a double fudge chocolate cake with caramel. Breakfast was just as delightful, with triple cream yogurt parfait, pecan roll style bread pudding, scrambled eggs, and turkey sausage links. We watched the sunset over a bottle of wine and had a great time talking with Patrick, the patriarch. My husband and I stayed overnight in the newly renovated first floor Lovingston Room for our anniversary. We live near Charlottesville, so it was an easy, short drive to the Blue Ridge. This old home was a serene spot for a relaxing getaway and our “renewal” honeymoon.

Sarah guided the whole experience from beginning to end, and we couldn’t have been happier with how it all went. She, Robin, and the rest of the family were gracious and accommodating while Orchard House hosted my daughter’s wedding last week. The property is lovely, with beautiful, comfortable rooms, and the food was fantastic every time it was served. I live in California and don’t get to Virginia often, but I hope to return someday. For a family gathering or wedding, I highly recommend Orchard House.

Breakfast was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G, honestly good enough that I was tempted to lick my plate. After a day out, we came back to a welcome dessert on the entryway table, and it was perfect. Robin and Sarah showed us around when we arrived, and the whole place was tidy and clean. The calm, inviting feel, with soft music and the smell of home cooking, made it feel like a warm hug as soon as we walked in. We could wander around the property and enjoy the amenities, including a clear pool where we soaked up the sun. The whole family, even the young kids, were so polite. It was a breath of fresh air to meet such kind people. We’ll definitely be back.

We left Orchard House with memories we’ll cherish for years, and can’t wait to return. The Thacker family treated us like family and took care of details we hadn’t even thought of, making the weekend feel effortless. The owners were always available with a smile, help on last minute setup, or a recommendation, while staying attentive without hovering. My son and new daughter had their wedding here, and I can’t recommend the place highly enough. The historic inn among Virginia’s rolling hills looked like a fairytale backdrop. The ceremony was beside a pond with a fountain, and the natural scenery needed almost no decoration. In the converted barn, three grand chandeliers hung above the reception, with crisscross patio lights outside. We stayed in the Farmhouse, where breakfast each morning included fresh pastries, hard boiled eggs, fruit, and yogurt. The wedding party in the main house raved about their three course breakfasts. Our rooms had luxurious linens, antique furniture, spa-like bathrooms, cozy fireplaces, and thoughtful touches throughout. The whole property felt comfortable and romantic. It was the most magical wedding weekend, worth every penny and then some.
