Fairfield Inn & Suites Lubbock

We only stayed one night because we’d been on the road all day, and the whole experience was horrible. Rooms 207 and 209 looked and smelled worse than most truck stops. At first they seemed clean, with a strong chemical cleaner smell, but the more you looked, the worse it got. Saying the place could use an update is a gross understatement. The hotel smelled of smoke, and we found out why: housekeeping staff were smoking right outside the front entrance. At 9am, housekeeping barged into our room even though we’d said out loud that we were in there and in the bathroom. The beds were old, lumpy, and painful, and the pillows were worn out. The elevator was extremely tight, barely wide enough for a luggage cart, and didn’t line up with the floor, leaving a deep gap where it got stuck. I feel bad for anyone using a wheelchair. My family has stayed in cleaner, better maintained Motel 6 hotels.

The staff were friendly and pleasant, and the beds and bathroom were clean. For a one-night stay, we found the room clean and fairly comfortable, despite the hotel being dated and in need of updates. Our double-queen room had torn carpet by the entrance, and the A/C never cooled the room enough for the way we like to sleep. In the morning there was no hot breakfast buffet, just a waffle maker and the usual continental options.

The front desk staff were nice, and I’ve stayed in worse places, but I probably won’t come back. I expected more from Marriott. The hotel is outdated and overpriced, though the area is good. The showerhead was crusted with mineral deposits, the sink had no stopper, and the place needed a deep clean. The elevator was old, slow, creaky, and looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in ages. Breakfast wasn’t appetizing, and the A/C was inefficient.

I was here on a work trip and didn’t have many other options. The nightly rate was cheap, but it wasn’t worth worrying that I might take something home with me. After just the first night, I’d already contacted HR to see if I could cancel and book somewhere else. I usually stay at Marriott’s and don’t have many problems, but this was rough. The room had water damage, the bedding was unclean, and the bathroom wasn’t clean either. That’s not what I expect at any Marriott.
