We cooked at the house most nights, and that kitchen really is the best. The beds were comfortable, the coffee was excellent, and warm floors were a treat on chilly mornings. Nettles Farm isn't fancy or luxurious, but the stay felt truly authentic, peaceful, and private. Riley puts in a lot of effort for guests who want to join in. If you've ever wanted to eat your weight in crab, he can make it happen, and his suggestions are worth following. I still wish we'd found time for the seaweed baths and forest sauna. I may never get this far west for another vacation, but I'll keep dreaming about this one.

The house was nice, and the kitchen had plenty of supplies, but much of what drew us to Nettles Farm wasn't there during our stay. We had hoped to spend time outdoors, yet the grounds were overgrown and neglected compared with the website photos. There were no vegetables, the chickens stayed in their coop, and the outdoor kitchen wasn't inviting. We also had to ask for a fan, and several windows lacked screens, so the house got hot during the day. Riley is a very nice host, though he seemed to have forgotten our check-in and our request for pizza kits for both nights. He assembled one for the second night, but the dough wasn't made by him and was inedible after baking in the pizza oven. On the morning of that day, he also said he'd get crab and oysters for dinner, then at 6:20 that evening let us know he couldn't bring them. With so few food options on the island, having no food arranged either night was especially difficult. We would have appreciated the pizza both nights, as we'd requested and as other guests had praised. We were disappointed, especially for the price. If the farm is brought back into shape, it could be a much better stay and a good value. Given its current condition and our experience, we'd suggest looking at other places on the island.

Riley was gracious about giving us space while still being easy to reach, and you have to meet Stella, the cherry on top. The place felt secluded, but beaches were accessible and the views were amazing, with sublime sunsets. The extras Riley offered made a great stay even better. We had fun making pizzas in the amazing kitchen, and learning to pin bone the fresh coho was special. It was delicious, too!

The pizza oven and kit Riley gave us were a highlight, and making pizzas was fun for both the adults and kids. Riley himself was super nice and friendly. We spent three nights at Nettles Farm with four adults and a 3 year old. The place seemed to have been neglected for a while. The farm had no vegetables or herbs, and the overgrowth looked nothing like the website pictures. The house had most of the necessities, but many window screens were missing, so we couldn't open it up without letting in flies and bugs. At a little over $1800, or $600 a night, we felt we could have spent our money better elsewhere.

For a group of six adults, a toddler, and a goldendoodle, Nettles Farm turned out to be a dream vacation. Riley was thoughtful, generous, and went out of his way to make us feel at home and show us the magic of Lummi. The house came stocked with home-roasted coffee, eggs from the farm, bacon cured by neighbors, and garden herbs, things we hadn't had at a rental before. There was also a feast of spot prawns, a rare and delicious treat. We visited beautiful beaches, walked through forest preserves, and bought supplies at the local farm stand. Lummi was a perfect respite for our citydweller group, and both the island and Nettles Farm will stay with us.
