The converted shoe factory is spectacular, and the location is one of the best I’ve had on my travels. There are great restaurants within walking distance and awesome views. The pizza restaurant attached to the hotel is really good, but Shoemakers is only open Thursday-Sunday, which was disappointing. For dinner, walk 100 feet to Bootleggers; the service there was the best I’ve had in years. Sleep was the problem. It’s not quiet, and the rooms don’t get dark because there are no curtains over the blinds. The train didn’t really bother me, but a drunk guy in the next room yelled every night from 9:15-10:15. I can’t recommend the hotel with that noise and the lack of a dark room for sleeping.

The Catricala’s wedding weekend was the best, and the Craddock Terry Hotel played such a big part in it. Lindsay Land, the hotel manager, was one of the best people we met during our two years of planning: responsive, helpful, thoughtful, and reassuring through every detail. She even helped coordinate our rehearsal dinner with the Shoemakers restaurant connected to the property. The front desk ladies also went above and beyond with information, answers, and making requests happen. Our guests kept commenting on the huge rooms and the hotel’s amazing feel and architecture. We didn’t know when choosing it that it was an old shoe factory, and that history made the place extraordinary. The beds were the most comfortable we’ve ever stayed in, and the rooms were spacious. There’s complimentary breakfast delivered to your door, a gift and snack shop, and a huge downstairs patio outside one of the two restaurants. For a special event, a weekend away, or just somewhere new, they’ll go to great lengths to keep you happy. Five out of five doesn’t do this place justice. Thank you for making our wedding weekend so great! ❤️

We only planned to stop for one night during a road trip, since we had our dog and didn’t want her in the car for 10+ hours. I made a last-minute booking at The Craddock, which came up as pet-friendly, expecting an ordinary hotel stay. Instead, the service and pet accommodations blew us away. We got a main-floor room with easy access to the exits, which was crucial with a dog. There was a dog bed waiting, plus a gift bag with treats and a little toy. We felt so welcome, especially since we’d never stayed at a hotel with a dog before. There was also a dog-friendly brunch place a few blocks down the street. We’ll remember this experience next time we make that road trip.

This is not a good choice if you’re a light sleeper. The thin, filthy windows let in the noise and even the feel of car engines starting in the parking lot, which was just outside my room. The hotel is very close to an active railway, so trains sometimes sound their horns after 11:30 p.m. I could also hear conversations, toilets flushing, footsteps upstairs, and nearby doors closing hard enough to shake the walls. The comforter was stained, though housekeeping quickly replaced it. There were dusty light fixtures and handprints on the bathroom windows, too. The iron leaked badly from the bottom. The shower pressure was weak and there was no hand nozzle, so rinsing meant doing the “rotisserie chicken thing.” The heavy, absorbent bath mat wouldn’t grip the stone floor and felt like a slip hazard. There’s no microwave in the room, and no outlets on the nightstands. You have to reach behind them to plug things into the wall. The desk lamp has an outlet and USB port, but there wasn’t enough room for the lamp, diffuser, and phone, so I had to plug my phone in elsewhere. Thank goodness I had a long cord, though it became a trip hazard. The property has a distinctive shoe theme, a nod to its past as the world’s fifth largest shoe company. The room was large, with a huge bathroom and exceptionally big shower. At check-in, staff gave me a small vial of essential oil for the in-room diffuser, which also plays nature sounds like birdsong, a babbling brook, and ocean waves as background noise. Breakfast was delivered to the room, with preferences left in the provided shoebox. There was a small fridge with two complimentary waters, plenty of towels, ample counter space, a makeup mirror, and lots of outdoor seating. About an hour after check-in, the front desk texted to see if I needed anything, which saved me a call. Some front desk staff were polite and helpful. Getting there was difficult: the street in front was blocked by a bulldozer, there was no Main Street signage, and I had to pass several “road closed ahead” signs. If you run into the same situation, turn right on 12th Street, then right again at the bottom of the hill for the front entrance. My dealings with front desk staff member Lola/Lolita were frustrating throughout. When I called for directions, she said, “I don’t know. I’m not from here. And I don’t feel comfortable giving you directions because I’m not from here.” I told her I was on Main Street in front of Commerce Street, looking at the building, but she only said to “follow the detour.” There wasn’t a detour or any sign showing how to get to the hotel. She also said my stay was connected to my Marriott Bonvoy account, but it wasn’t on my monthly statement or hotel receipt. Bonvoy customer service later confirmed it wasn’t connected. I needed to confirm reservation details at one point. With another guest there, Lolita asked me to say my room number aloud, which felt like a safety concern. I waited for the guest to leave and gave her the number. About 15 seconds later she asked again. I repeated it more slowly, and her tone made it sound like I was being rude or difficult, though I was only repeating what she’d asked. Along with her general lack of help, it made further communication uncomfortable and unproductive.

The venue is pretty and felt very clean, and the hotel itself is well maintained with lots of friendly employees. I’d recommend the event space for a wedding or another event. The event manager was organized, very friendly, and helpful. We didn’t book the venue in the end for reasons unrelated to it.
