The bed was comfortable, the place was very clean, and the porch was lovely. Porters carried our bags to the room, and the location was great. The espresso bar was decent, and guests get a small discount. We stayed for a week in October and had a wonderful time, though there are a few things picky travelers should know. The bathrooms are tiny, about the size of a closet, which is why I’d give that part a 4. Breakfast is a clean, well-stocked spread of bread, bagels, juice, coffee, and cereal. It’s a house, so you may hear people moving around in the room above or next door. It wasn’t terribly noisy, and we’re not especially picky. The AC and heat have separate controls, so you may need to fiddle with them to get the temperature right. We were glad we’d read the reviews beforehand, since nothing caught us by surprise.

We had a wonderful stay at the Inn. It’s family friendly, and while the rooms are a little small, there’s so much to see on the island that we didn’t spend much time in ours. The Inn has a lot of history, too. The service was superb, with staff happy to recommend restaurants and sights. In the morning, it was nice to sit with coffee on the wraparound porch and watch the sunrise as the island woke up. The complimentary continental breakfast included pasties, hard-boiled eggs, cereal, fruit, cold juices, and coffee. The location worked well for exploring: St. Ann’s church is less than a block away, and the butterfly house is a little farther behind the church. Main Street is just down the street.

The alarm went off in the middle of the night, which was especially upsetting with our little children. After it stopped, we headed back to our rooms, but a few minutes later it sounded again. People were panicking, so we went outside and waited around 25-30 minutes for the fire department. When we were allowed back in, a firefighter said someone inside had pulled the alarm as a prank and that police would investigate. After breakfast the next morning, I saw the same woman from management who had been there overnight. I asked if they had found the person. She gave a short, cold reply that they wouldn’t release the information or share the person’s private details. I hadn’t asked for a name, just whether they’d caught whoever made all of us stand outside in the middle of the night. It was a strange answer. She seemed more concerned with the prankster’s privacy than with the guests who’d been woken up and made to wait outdoors. It felt like a very woke response. Later I saw police come by to ask about looking at the cameras, but they left soon after. After my conversation with her, I wasn’t convinced she was very interested in helping them. Aside from that one interaction, we had a wonderful stay.

There were nice extras, including breakfast, coffee and hot tea, and fresh chocolate chip cookies in the evening. We also liked the great balcony, the deck with its large hot tub, and the practical common areas. The rooms were cute and clean, and the location on the island was great. We’d definitely stay here again.

One of my favorite parts of the trip was sitting on the porch in the morning and evening. Our Victorian harbor room on the fifth floor had one of the best views on Mackinac Island. The Inn is centrally placed, about a 5-8 minute walk from downtown. Staff were great, and breakfast was nicely set up. We had a wonderful time and can’t wait to return. Thank you!
