Bayside Hotel of Mackinac

The room itself was basic, and the elevator carpet was in rough shape. We arrived late and had to check in at the hotel next door, which was weird. Every outlet was loose, so it was hard to plug in a charger and keep it connected. The power needs updating, and USB outlets would help too.

The Bayside Hotel in Mackinaw City was a huge letdown. There were bags of rubbish all around outside, and the building looked dirty and neglected. Our room smelled bad and was filthy. It took more than 15 minutes to get warm water at the sink and shower. The outdoor pool and hot tub were cold and dirty, and we didn't go into the waterpark. There was no continental breakfast and not even coffee available. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

The girls were really friendly, and the restaurant next door is great and worth having dinner at. As for the room, it's a budget place if all you need is a clean bed and a shower, but the carpets need replacing and the whole place badly needs an upgrade. After 8 am nobody was in the lobby. Parts were missing from our coffee maker, and finding coffee meant going next door. Not far, but still a hassle.

We booked for the price and the indoor waterpark, but the website pictures were misleading, and I wouldn't recommend the hotel. The waterpark needs a lot of work: rust in several places, paint chips everywhere from the water, and a pool so dark and cloudy it looked unclean. In our room, one bed was broken. I reported it, and when we came back later they had only flipped the mattress. The fridge smelled awful, so we didn't use it. Across our three-day stay, the garbage wasn't changed, no fresh towels were left, and the beds weren't made. I don't know if they no longer do that. The staff were nice, but there didn't seem to be anyone there in the evening, maybe because of a shortage. There's no accommodation breakfast, and coffee came out very late in the morning. They have a lot of work to do.
