Bear Creek Mountain Resort

The snow was good and the people were generally very nice, so it's a great spot overall. I was frustrated by the night ticket pricing, though. The passes can be reloaded, and bringing an old pass saves $5, but I only learned I'd misunderstood the pricing when I arrived. I already had a pass from last year, and when I asked why I needed to pay for another one, I felt the manager could have handled it better. I was basically told, "It's a great deal." I just don't like surprise extra charges. Lift loading could use another staff person at each lift. Too often, I saw one or two people get on a four person lift while 100 people waited in line. This is a review of the ski area only.

We loved being able to ski right out from the backyard, then head back to the room for a break and go out again. The mountain view from the terrace was amazing, and our family suite had a kitchen where we made simple meals and breakfast. There were two lift tickets in the package, which was great value. We spent Christmas at Bear Creek Mountain Resort and had a lovely time. The staff welcomed us with warm cookies, and the resort felt cozy and charming. There are lots of beginner runs as well as more advanced ones, so everyone in the family enjoyed it. We also had fun snow tubing. We didn't eat at the restaurant or use the pool. For a family ski trip, especially with beginners, I'd recommend it.

We had a mountain view suite on the ground floor, which turned out to be handy. We could almost ski right up to the room, and it was easy to reach the pools and hot tubs without stairs or elevators. The sliding door was largely inoperable, though, which was my one room complaint. We stayed Sunday into Monday with three tween aged kids. The package came with lift tickets for check in day and the next day, plus 40% off the kids' rentals, a tremendous value. Dinner during happy hour at Trails End Cafe worked really well for the family. It's a perfect mountain for younger kids learning to ski and ride.

We'd never even walked on snow before, coming from Florida, so getting down the beginners maintain by the end of our two hour lesson felt incredible. The Learn to Ski lesson was fantastic, and everyone at the property was kind and went above and beyond to help us feel welcome and comfortable while learning. A huge shoutout to Mark, our instructor. He was patient, knowledgeable, and really kind, and made the process simple. We'll definitely keep skiing and hope we can come back to say hi to Mark.
