The Edgewater

From the front desk to the bars, restaurants, and parking attendants, the service was wonderful. They even arranged a shuttle to and from our event. Spectacular hotel, and the staff were the best I've experienced. I'll definitely stay here again and highly recommend it for a visit to Madison.

We drove nearly an hour to celebrate our wedding anniversary at The Edgewater, expecting a special evening. Instead, the poor hosting, disorganization, food quality problems, and safety concerns left us very disappointed. We were told the table wait would be about 10 minutes, which was fine, and the hostess suggested we wait at the bar. We were never seated, though, while two women who arrived about five minutes after us got a table almost right away. At the bar, I had first sat in a clean area that had just been wiped down. The same hostess moved us to a dirty section and had us wait while she cleaned it, which felt unnecessary and disorganized. The icy conditions made the lack of salt around the building a serious concern. We saw a nine-year-old child fall on the sidewalk beside the building. That was alarming and unacceptable. This was far from the evening we'd hoped for.

The property may be nice, but I found the staff rude and unwilling to accommodate me. I booked six months ahead, then called to change the dates after realizing I'd made a mistake. They told me it was my mistake and they would do nothing about it. If your plans change or you slip up, they may keep your money and leave you stuck. I wouldn't risk it.

The rooms were beautiful, comfortable, and thoughtfully equipped, and the service was excellent. I'd give the hotel a definite five out of five. One small surprise for anyone accustomed to full-service hotels: at least during our November visit, they didn't seem to offer bell service. It wasn't a problem for us.
