Meadowlark Motel with Restaurant & Bar

We chose this place because reviews said it was biker friendly, but we couldn't find anyone to talk to. The whole property was open, and we walked around inside and all over outside for half an hour or more. We called six numbers posted on the door: one had a working voicemail, one just rang, and the other four said their inboxes were full. None seemed to ring the phone at the desk. We talked with a woman while walking around. She seemed to be the only guest and said she hadn't seen anyone around since arriving. It looked cute, and we prefer spending our money at local small businesses, but we eventually checked in somewhere else. Later, my wife got a call showing as New York, but didn't answer. I guess we'll never know if that caller wanted to rent us a room. LOL.

The beds were comfortable, the linens, pillows, and blankets were clean, and the room was very soundproofed. The staff were friendly, and the continental breakfast was satisfactory. We would have gladly moved, but there were no other rooms available. The review would have been much better if they'd taken care of the little things. We booked a lower-level king room through Expedia, but Motel Booking put us in an upper-level double queen room with a 17-step outdoor staircase. It smelled very musty. Opening the windows didn't help much because the screens didn't seal and bugs could get in. There was hardened liquid soap by the bathtub faucet, and the shower dispensers were empty. The hairdryer worked, but had a sharp screw sticking out from where it used to hang on the wall. The blackout curtain worked despite missing rod hooks, and the rod was covered in spiderwebs. The ceiling light panel over the sink was filthy and broken in places. The refrigerator gasket had black mold, and the freezer was completely iced over and didn't work. We took our full trash bags outside for pickup, but there were no extra bags, and the cans were filthy.

Seana made the place feel like five stars. She was always smiling, friendly, and cheerful, and made everyone feel welcome. She tried to make every situation positive. Tim was great too, coming in on his day off with a smile and ready to help. Thank you to all of them!

We stayed in a cabin, and the lovely water view made it totally worthwhile. The place wasn't especially well stocked, but it worked for us this time. If we return, I'll bring some kitchen supplies so I can cook.
