Jamie always gives us the same room, and it’s spotless, with a bed that’s so comfortable. I’m happy to walk around barefoot there. We’ve returned to Applesauce Inn every July for ten years while doing an organized bike ride around Torch Lake, and it feels like coming home. Jamie is an outstanding host, and we love her welcoming hug each year. Breakfast is creative, delicious, and clearly farm to table. Waking up to fresh coffee from a local roaster and the good smells drifting from the kitchen is such a treat.

We spent seven days at Applesauce Inn for our 40th wedding anniversary, and Jamie and Gary made us feel right at home. They were also helpful with suggestions for places to visit and restaurants to try. It’s easy to take day trips to a different town each day from this central location, which was exactly what we wanted. The room was cozy, welcoming, and thoughtfully stocked. Every morning brought a scrumptious breakfast that looked like it belonged in a gourmet magazine, and each evening there was a sweet treat. Coffee, tea, and water were always available, along with wine for relaxing. I’d been searching boutique hotels, Airbnb's, and resorts for over a month, and kept coming back to Applesauce Inn. We were so glad we did. Come as strangers, leave as friends.

That tea was so good, we went into town right away to buy more of the local Bellaire blend. What a lovely experience, and such a treasure. We were hosted for an afternoon tea party lunch in a beautiful, comfortable space. My 8yr old even got a tiara to finish off her princess experience. The homemade tomato soup and traditional tea sandwiches were wonderful. The egg salad croissant topped with a cornichon was the surprise favorite, and there was so much food we took leftovers home. There were board games to play, and the service was attentive and kind. Love love love.

Jamie’s cooking made breakfast feel like a five star meal, and Gary keeps the grounds so carefully that they feel welcoming. You can tell how much care they put into their B&B. I’ll absolutely come back when I or my family need somewhere to stay in the area.

The rooms each have their own decor, and there are little things around the house that brought back childhood memories. Mornings came with coffee and a lovely breakfast. The house dates to the early 1900s and has farmhouse charm, but it’s been kept in surprisingly great condition. I’m a builder, so I notice those things. The owners live there, though you’d never know it. They give you space and are around whenever you need something. Outside, there’s plenty of room to wander, with a wraparound porch, bonfire pit, pergola, picnic tables, a chicken coop, and acreage with humming birds, squirrels, and raccoons, aka trash bandits. Town is close, and there’s plenty to do beyond relaxing at the house. My wife and I came for a mini 4 day vacation and we’re already excited to return, even though the trip isn’t over yet. Gary and Jamie are kind, welcoming hosts who clearly take pride in making each visit feel special. We talked with them and could tell they love the area. Their tips on places to go, food and drinks to try, and things to see, plus their connections with friends and family nearby, made it feel like coming home. The place can be a quiet getaway or a trip with friends and family, whichever you want. With nearly 100% 5 star reviews, it’s clearly a popular spot, and our own stay has been wonderful.
