The only thing I can praise is the location. We chose the hotel because someone who'd stayed years ago said it was nice and right across from the beach. Maybe it was then, but it isn't now. I'm from Lansing, and there are hood hotels that are nicer and cheaper. We found plenty of other places nearby that looked better for the same price or less. The website photos are out of date, and nobody even told us a Wi-Fi password, so I'm not sure they have it. We'd reserved a Jacuzzi room months ahead for a romantic fall weekend, but regretted it as soon as we went in. The door frame was broken, as if someone had kicked it, and the lock wouldn't line up unless we wiggled the door. The Jacuzzi skirting was chipped and looked partly torn off. The jet trim looked moldy at first, though on closer inspection it was just old and discolored. The water temperature kept changing, and the hot-water handle leaked. In the bathroom, the towel bar was coming off the wall, the vanity faucet was very stiff and probably original, and the shower handle just spun. We had to push it in while turning to change the temperature, and the shower head needs an update too. At 11:00pm we called from the room phone about the Jacuzzi temperature, but got no answer. I went to the desk, found the door locked, rang the bell as the sign instructed, and still got no answer. I finally called the number on the door with my cell phone. The guy came promptly, ran his hand under the water and said it was hot. I explained it gets hot, then goes cold after a few minutes, but he just repeated that it was hot and left. We asked if they could open the hot tub for a while to make up for it and they said no. I was hoping for some kind of solution. The Jacuzzi was only half full when he left, and it got cold again. At checkout I tried to use the 10% breakfast coupon for the restaurant next door. The server said they weren't associated with the hotel and wouldn't accept it. We also noticed the room's problems as soon as we arrived on Friday afternoon. From outside it didn't look horrible, which was based on my many fall trips to the upper peninsula when businesses are winding down. Check-in itself was ordinary. The woman at the counter showed us the room and pool area and gave us two coupons for 10% off breakfast at the restaurant next door.

We left after one night even though we'd booked two, because the room was dirty and tired: stains on the carpet, dust, a dead lightbulb, and a bathroom that hadn't been cleaned properly. The door frame was broken, and we didn't feel safe. We skipped the pool, which I'm glad about since other guests said it was dirty too. I hadn't read reviews beforehand, but now I believe the one-star reviews and have doubts about the five-star ones. There's no way this place deserves five stars. Those reviews are BS. When I asked for a refund for the unused second night, they flat-out refused, even though the hotel was nearly empty. Hotels.com told me to contact the hotel, and the hotel refused again. I'll take it up with the credit card company. They also charged a $50 deposit, which no other hotel on our trip did. Based on other reviews I worried they'd blame us for the already broken door frame, but the deposit was refunded within a few days. I've stayed at budget hotels before, but this one was bad. Save yourself the frustration and stay somewhere else.

The private beach was the one redeeming part, though the shoreline was rocky and littered with trash, so it was hard to enjoy. Our room hadn't been cleaned well, and the pool and hot tub were filthy. I found a box cutter razor blade in the desk drawer, which was terrifying with two kids traveling with me. This was the worst stay of our week-long trip. I've had some rough hotels, and while this wasn't the absolute worst, it's near the top. If you have other options, stay elsewhere.

The beach across the street was great, but my bed wasn't very comfortable. The rooms were clean, though they could use some updating.

The room smelled like smoke and must, and the floor had barely been vacuumed. The bedspreads were nasty, and the pool and beach area were unkempt. I wouldn't bring kids here or spend my money here. We were promised our deposit back as long as no extra person stayed in the room, and no one did, but it never came. At first nobody responded when we called. On the next call, we were told they were keeping it over a coffee stain. I called for my parents and told the manager there had been no new stains on the bed, only stains already in the room. She was incredibly rude, wouldn't let me finish a sentence, and seemed not to understand her own policies. She got angry and said it was my choice to leave a bad review, then said I should have reported how gross the room was. Why would I, when the place clearly doesn't care? Low standards, and incredibly argumentative, as the replies below show. You're a pathetic excuse for hospitality management.
