The Inn on Maritime Bay, an Ascend Collection Hotel

We checked in at 4:25 pm and left at 10:30 pm, refusing to finish our stay. The hot tub was out of service, which was disappointing since we were on vacation. Then the arcade machines didn't give us the prizes we'd won. We tried the pool anyway, but the hot tub was brown, with what looked like dead skin or dirt piled on the bottom. Black liquid was leaking from the roof onto the floor, the pool room was 65 degrees, and tiles were broken and falling from the third floor. The vents had layers of dust. It felt like a horror movie and a health hazard. I have a broken clavicle and couldn't use the pool because the chair lifts didn't work, so about half the hotel was unusable. They refused to refund the $158, so I kept the health department's number and photos and planned to call. In its response, the property said significant snowfall had caused the problems, but Wisconsin hadn't had significant snowfall for over a month and a half. They also claimed trespassing, even though access to the third floor wasn't blocked and the problems could all be seen from the pool area. We stayed February 23 and were supposed to leave on the 24th, but left early because of these issues. There hadn't been significant snowfall in Wisconsin since December 28, 2025, so we were there almost two months later and the problems still hadn't been fixed. After seeing the hotel's response, I decided to contact the health department. Ants in the pool area in winter, obvious safety hazards, and a very defensive response told me what I needed to know. I contacted the health department on March 4, 2026.

Watching the sunrise over the lake was beautiful. The rooms, though, are very dated. I found hair in the bathtub, the faucet was leaking, and the long pillows had no cases and had hair and other stuff all over them. Breakfast was probably the worst part: a few bagels, two choices of small cereal boxes like you'd get in middle school, and a four-ounce cup of orange juice. There was only one table, so I had to share it with other people.

The website glitched and messed up our room. The staff were friendly, and I don't blame them for that, but the trouble was obvious when the door didn't open on the first card tap and only worked the second time. The toilet seat was broken too. It felt like they'd taken all the old stuff from the previous hotel and put it back alongside new things. The pool tiles had grime and needed a deep clean. There were spider webs and a very dirty window, though webs can happen. It's a decent hotel, but I wouldn't pay that much to stay there.

I stayed at the Inn at Maritime Bay, an Ascend Collection Hotel, about 18 months ago and found it clean and pleasant. This visit was a letdown. The front desk didn't seem concerned when I spoke with them, and it's a shame people have stopped caring. There's no pride in the place. The windows were filthy, the hallways smelled bad, the carpets needed a deep clean, and the outdoor trash bins were overflowing. In the room, the pillows were yellowed and stained with sweat, the exterior windows were grimy, and housekeeping didn't come unless you specifically asked. Cleanliness matters at any hotel, fancy or not. I won't stay here again.
