Sunset Surf Motel

Finding another place for our honeymoon on such short notice was a scramble, especially one with similar amenities at a comparable price. We'd booked our favorite room for early October, but less than a month before the trip the motel called to cancel because it was being refurbished. It would have been nice if they'd at least helped us find somewhere nearby. I'd been going there for well over a decade, and it had always been my happy place, so booking it for our honeymoon felt natural. After the cancellation, I emailed to explain how disappointed I was with the way they treated a longtime fan. I never got any response. I wasn't asking for free things, just a sincere apology. The new owners don't seem to care, and I was surprised nobody could be bothered to write back. I can't imagine continuing my yearly vacation there. I'm not even angry, just sad and disappointed.

The $88 special got me a tiny room behind the hotel without an ocean view, but for that price it was perfectly fine and totally worth it. It was clean, the bed was comfy, and dogs are welcome. There was a strange smell, though I could live with that at this rate. It also made me realize I'd overpaid for some other rooms on this trip that were about the same. Thanks!

The views are hard to beat, and the location, value, and overall space were good. Our room was clean and looked like the pictures, and the desk staff were perfectly polite. The beds were VERY comfy. But the loveseat looked decent in the photo and was pretty beat up in person, as well as tiny for the space. Four people wouldn't have been comfortable hanging out there. There were only two of us, and even we couldn't sit comfortably together.

Room #27 was above the office and had a wonderful ocean view, with the beach just across the road. The inside of the property has been nicely updated, and the staff were helpful, personable, and thorough. Staying right next to the ocean was a dream for me, and this place was perfect.
