Cambria Hotel Minneapolis Maple Grove

That bed was old and so uncomfortable that I woke up with a sore back every morning. The TV in the sitting area didn't work either. Someone said they'd come fix it that afternoon, but nobody showed. For three mornings the shower was barely lukewarm, though at night the water got very hot. Maybe being on the fourth floor had something to do with it, since the hotel was full. There were some good points: the room was spacious and clean, with a sitting area and two TVs, and the rate was reasonable. The location and parking were convenient, staff were friendly, coffee was readily available in the lobby, and both the standard free breakfast and workout area were fine. We’ve stayed here before, but the small pool was drained and the small jacuzzi was out of order again. Expect a $200 deposit, which can take several days to show back up in your account.

We barely slept during our three-night visit in late April. The bed was lumpy, the fitted sheet didn't fit, kids ran up and down the halls until at least midnight, and someone was yelling in the hallway at 6 a.m. Breakfast was cold and had almost no variety, worse than what I've had at cheaper hotels. The first evening was okay except that one of the two elevators was out. There was just one washcloth for two adults, and when we asked, the desk said that was all they supplied per room. The next day the hotel got busier, the elevator was still down, and we were asked to leave the hot tub because an alarm was sounding and staff didn't know how to check it. On our final night the pool and hot tub were posted as closed because someone had pooped in the pool, but later we saw people in the hot tub with the signs still up. Someone in our group had come for an ultramarathon, running 100 miles in 24 hours, and was counting on the hot tub, only to be turned away. The noise, dirt and poor upkeep and management mean I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

The room was dirty, and the service at check-in from Paulina and jay was rude when I raised concerns about room 226. The microwave was outdated, the pullout couch was stained and dirty, and staff said they'd tried to clean the marks without success. The tub bottom was black; when I asked jay if she would use that bathroom, she said no, and also said nothing could be done about the tub. The mini fridge wasn't defrosted and had no light, and there were no sheets for the pullout bed or any in the closet. Paulina's only offer was a replacement mini fridge. jay first offered a King room, then said I couldn't see it and withdrew the offer. She said she'd spoken with her manager Roxanna, who wouldn't be in until Monday. Paulina mentioned a discount but didn't know the amount. When I said that wasn't acceptable and asked for the manager, jay offered to refund four of five nights and told us to go elsewhere. Even after explaining we'd only been there 15 minutes and asking for a full refund, she said we wouldn't get one. Paulina then rushed us out. The elevator and hot tub were out of service too. Worst room and customer service I've had, and I won't book here again.

The beds made it hard to get a restful night's sleep, and the hot tub jets weren't working even though the amenity was advertised. Housekeeping also came to the room around 8 a.m. despite my request for late checkout, which made it seem like staff weren't communicating. The overall service fell short. I'm also still waiting for the $200 incidental hold to come off my card, a week after the stay. I know holds are used for incidentals, but this amount seemed excessive compared with industry standards. I chose the hotel expecting a comfortable, straightforward visit, and that wasn't my experience. Please confirm the hold has been released and consider a partial refund or other compensation for the problems.
