Skipjack Resort & Marina

The rooms were clean, the staff friendly, and it was handy being near the pool and tiki bar. The bartenders were great and made really good Pina Colada and a drink called a Painkiller. The pool wasn't heated, though I thought I'd read that it was. Sombrero Beach was very close and was the only clean beach we found in the Keys. Most of the others smelled from piles of seaweed. Great place to stay, and I'd come back.

The scrambled eggs were amazing, and I loved the pool and walking along the canal boardwalk to look at the boats. The room looked new and was super clean, with nice floors, a big shower, and a spacious bathroom.

We enjoyed the resort, especially the activities and amenities. Breakfast and all the food from the Bistro were very good. But our room floor was filthy. After walking barefoot, we had to wash our feet before getting into bed. We left a day early because my brother died. I knew I wouldn't get a refund for the reservation, but didn't expect to be charged the resort fee for amenities on the day we weren't there. I emailed about it and still haven't heard back.

The restaurant was great, and there was often a lively crowd at the bar, with occasional live music for anyone who enjoys that. Our accommodations were comfortable and roomy, but the floor was filthy and left our feet black when we walked barefoot. They tried to clean it, but it was still dirty. The pool wasn't heated because the heater wasn't working, and there didn't seem to be any urgency to fix it. The mini fridge was very small, with no icebox or freezer compartment. To get ice, we had to walk to the front office and have them fill our small bucket. The main building seemed laid out backwards: the balcony faced the parking lot, while the walkway with all the room entrances overlooked the waterway and boats. We were on the fourth floor, so sitting on the water side would have been nice. The property could use a facelift. They do have recently updated villas with full kitchens and better spots on the canal, for more money. We learned later that some units we stayed in are privately owned and have had considerable improvements, and can be rented through Vacasa or Vrbo.
