The location is great, the A/C worked well, and the $25 voucher we used at the Patio got us a delicious meal. That's about all the good I can say. The building is old, which I can appreciate, but this felt disgusting, not charming or quirky. We won't be back. We came as four women for a calm bachelorette weekend and were excited by the decent reviews. A week before, we called to check whether our reservation included the gate fee. Cole told us it did for our room type, and three of us heard him. At the entrance, we were shocked to find we had to pay $80 per person plus $40 for parking. Then we spent two hours trying to find a parking spot we'd already paid $40 for. We drove around one-way streets and in circles for 30 minutes, then asked a worker for help. We were told to park across the street, but there was no parking there. Eventually someone left and we got their space. By the time we unloaded and settled into the room it was 7 p.m., and a day had gone to waste after we'd paid $40 each at the gate. The condition of the hotel was awful. There were piles of dirt in the hall that housekeeping walked past repeatedly; they were still there at checkout two nights later. When our key failed, the man from downstairs walked right over the dirt pile and ignored it. I counted seven bugs in my twin bed alone, the kind you'd expect dead on an old windowsill. The floors were stained, the trash hadn't been emptied, and the previous guests' bachelorette plates were still in it. The tiny bathroom was gross, there was no shower curtain, and the shower was so cramped we had to stand partly outside it to wash. The bathroom stayed flooded for hours after a shower, and the linens smelled so bad I struggled to sleep. Coming back after a fun day to feel uncomfortable and worry about bugs in bed was miserable. If you're claustrophobic, the elevator is a nightmare too, since it's extremely slow. They did offer to move us, but the beds in the other room wouldn't fit our group. Given the state of the building and the cleaning staff walking past the huge pile of dirt near our room, we didn't think another room would be any better.

The kids loved the fishing, sand box, and pool, though we didn't get to the splash pad. We brought life jackets for fishing off the pier. There are lots of ice cream choices nearby. The Patio was nice for breakfast, though we didn't try the dinner specials. Most local food is bar-style, things like burgers and hotdogs, but after a couple of days we drove out to The Wave, JJs, and a few good Mexican restaurants. The location and amenities in the private, gated Chautuaqua community were great for our few days with small children, and the room was a basic setup with two queen beds, a small fridge, desk, two drawer sets, and a closet area. The price seemed good until we got an unexpected bill of almost $370 in Chautuaqua entry gate passes for four days. The hotel could do a better job explaining those charges. This is a nonprofit hotel that supports community operations, and a few minor improvements could make it a stronger part of the community. Parking was another problem. If the hotel lot is full, you're on your own. The front desk's advice to “find an open spot” wasn't very helpful, and there isn't really nearby public parking. Most spots are reserved, golf cart, or handicap parking. We parked at a nearby church, which seemed to be where homeowners left overflow cars, though I could be wrong, until we found an open hotel space.

This was the cleanest stay we've had in the area. Parking is VERY limited, almost nonexistent, but the location, staff, rooms, and cleanliness made up for it.

It was a comfortable stay in a cute, quaint town, and the rooms were clean and well equipped. The hotel sits about a block from the beach at lakeside and has a lot of history and nostalgia. There were old photographs all along the hallways, and the doors still used real locks and keys instead of digital ones. It almost felt like stepping back to the '60s or earlier.

The place was peaceful and quiet, with clean, spacious rooms and beds that were great to sleep in. The staff went above and beyond, and there's plenty to see and do within walking distance. I can't wait to come back, highly recommend a stay here.
