South Seas Tower 4-1209

The rooms in this tower feel modern and have the conveniences of a new apartment. It's a good spot for a family trip, close to plenty of places to eat and shop, and there's a great view of tiger tail beach. The shore is a long walk, but the sand is firm for most of the way before it gets soft, so walking or pulling a beach cart isn't too bad. The beaches are also full of shells, which is great if you collect them.

The building and location are great, but the pool attendant has been a letdown. His badge seems to give him all the authority he needs, yet he takes long lightning breaks when there's no storm anywhere nearby. He'd rather chat on his phone than let guests and residents enjoy the pool.

The condos were both lovely, and the setting is beautiful, but the pool rules were a problem for us. It closes at 6 p.m.; no food or balls are allowed inside the fence, and children can't jump in from the edge into their parents' arms. The people enforcing the rules were rude, and it didn't feel kid-friendly. Parking also costs $100 per car for the week. The beach is about a quarter mile away, though most units seem to have beach wagons.

There's a lot to do in this gated community, from boating, tennis, and pickleball to walking, cycling, and community events. It's beautiful beachfront living for a vacation or all year round, with plenty of amenities. A little slice of paradise on Marco Island, Florida!
