Miners Inn

We drove 400 miles and arrived to find our room had been cancelled. No one had contacted or notified us, and the only explanation was that somehow it was cancelled, with no notes or idea how it happened. Every other room in Mariposa was booked, so we were stranded without anywhere to stay.

We arrived late on May 22 during high season, after calling a week earlier to move our booking from May 23-25 to May 22-24. The cheerful woman on the phone had promised to make the change, but the hotel said there was no record of it. With all the hotels booked, we changed our travel plans and paid a lot for their only remaining suite, which was expensive and terrible. I felt cheated. I’d give it zero stars if I could.

It’s an older inn, but that gives it some charm. The staff were wonderfully kind, parking was easy, and the room was comfortable and spacious. Breakfast was a good continental spread. It’s close to Yosemite, about a 45 minute to 1 hour drive to the park on the 140, and there are shops and several places to eat less than a mile away. I’d stay again.

Miners Inn looked like the most affordable acceptable option near Yosemite National Park, so we picked it for our visit. It’s a large motel with a breakfast room and souvenir shop. Staff were friendly and gave me the quiet top floor room I’d requested. Ours was a little dated but mostly clean. The fridge was handy, though noisy and right by the beds. Breakfast included boiled eggs, sausages, biscuits and gravy (a strange invention I’d never heard of), yoghurt, and pancake machines, and was fine. The price was higher than similar places elsewhere in the South-West, but that seems true across Mariposa because it’s so close to popular Yosemite NP. The stay was fine overall.
