Best Western Marlin Inn & Suites

Finding the place was easy, and check-in was quick with a friendly clerk. The mattress was great, and the bathroom and towels were reasonably clean, but that was about the extent of the good points. The suite and kitchenette looked decades old and badly neglected. There were nail clippings in the bed, the fridge was dirty on the outside, and a broken bolt on the toilet seat nearly caused my wife to fall. The pillows weren't comfortable, and the towels were thin and hard. Downstairs was just as disappointing. The lobby bathroom was locked because it was out of order, the glass entry doors were dirty, and the breakfast room was unbearably hot, around 90 degrees, with no working air conditioning in the lobby area. Breakfast was nearly gone 45 minutes before closing. There was toast but no butter or anything to put on it. The tint on our room window was peeling too. I can't understand the glowing anonymous reviews. This place is close to, or below, Motel 6 level, yet charges prices like Best Western or Quality Inn. I won't return. I expect clean rooms and sheets, no clippings in the bed, and a toilet that's safe to sit on.

It was easy to get in and out of the location, and the lobby was clean. The windows at the front could use a wash to make the entrance feel more welcoming. Some of the grass around the building needs to be cleared of glass, especially for people traveling with dogs. Our sofa was filthy and far too soft, and there were no washcloths in the bathroom. They brought fresh towels each day and emptied the trash, but didn't make the bed or change the bedding. Staff weren't especially friendly, and by the end of our stay the lobby bathroom was out of order.

I spent about 20 minutes waiting in the lobby because nobody was at the front desk. The hotel also had a really awful, strong smell that made the stay uncomfortable. On the second night, my room wasn't cleaned, which left me doubting how clean it was in the first place. One star for the experience. I won't stay here again or recommend it.

The room was clean and the beds were okay, and the coffee was good. It was a decent price, but breakfast was poor: the waffle tasted a bit off, and the pastry trays had only white bread. The shower got just a little above warm, never hot.
