Comfort Inn North of Asheville

The front desk staff were excellent when we checked in, and the location worked well for our business event. We had a clean first-floor ADA accessible room. Still, the place was oddly located and poorly signed, and having to pay at check-in instead of at checkout seemed strange. We were used to Hampton Inn serving breakfast until 10, so arriving at 9:40 and finding it had ended at 9 was a letdown. For one night without breakfast, the price felt high. I expected more from the franchise.

I was very disappointed. I called ahead to check that the elevators were working and that breakfast would be available, and was told both were fine. At check-in, I found out the elevators were down for construction and there was no breakfast because of the construction. The front desk apologized, but there was no discount or refund.

The staff were professional, and the room was comfortable, with bedding I liked and everything working. It was a good-sized room with three sets of towels for the king bed. The bathroom was small, but bright and clean. Breakfast was the usual simple selection. Room 201 could make a better first impression if the carpet edge by the tile weren't frayed. Pets are allowed for an extra $25 per day. It was an adequate stay in the right place, especially since it's the only hotel in town.

The desk setup made working on my computer awkward: it sits directly below the TV, with the bottom four inches right in my face. The desk lamp barely gives off light, and the refrigerator didn't fit in the nook built for it, ending up against a wall where a small desk could have gone if the space had been planned better. I also couldn't get on the Wi-Fi, so I had to take care of business elsewhere while running all over town. During the summer, the pool is disgusting. They're renovating, but the work doesn't seem planned around guests who need to work on a computer. There are no blackout curtains, so the parking lot lights shine into the room all night. The elevator broke too, and checking out meant three trips down four flights of stairs while I had asthma. There was only one coffee pot in the dining area, so people lined up for coffee and then for creamer. I've stayed here several times for business at land in have, but next time I think I'll stay in weaverville or at an Airbnb.
