Holiday Inn & Conference Center Marshfield by IHG

The room was quiet and the bed was comfortable, but sadly I won’t be coming back, even though I’ve stayed here several times over the years. From the outside, the building looked abandoned and poorly kept. The lobby, on the other hand, felt warm and friendly, though the person at the front desk wasn’t. The pool and hot tub were closed for renovations, and that was the main reason I’d picked this hotel.

We weren’t told before arriving that the pool was closed, even though it was a major reason we chose the hotel. The hallway also smelled strongly of sewage, and the ice situation was awful: one machine was broken, while the working one put out ice with black debris in it. The housekeeping staff were unhelpful and seemed to avoid us, and the front desk workers were curt and rude. There’s very little to do onsite if you haven’t already planned your trip. The lobby is small and uncomfortable, and there aren’t proper shared spaces where guests can gather or relax. The place felt dirty and badly managed. I wouldn’t stay here again or recommend it for families or groups of friends.

I called hotels to find an affordable overnight stay near the hospital because my daughter had surgery scheduled and we live far away. I asked whether a hospital discount was available and was quoted $91, so I booked. At check-in, the desk employee said I’d been quoted the wrong amount and gave me the choice of paying $115 for the night or canceling and staying somewhere else. I know people make mistakes, but I shouldn’t have had to pay for theirs. We were too tired to find another hotel at the last minute, so we paid. It was a lousy way for the hotel to handle it, and we won’t recommend them.

The room wasn’t cleaned the way staff insisted it had been, and the hotel is far more outdated than any other Holiday Inn we’ve stayed at. The check-in was probably the worst we’ve had with an IHG Hotel. Staff were unprofessional, didn’t seem to care about customer service, and didn’t understand the difference between a pet and a service animal. Hopefully they’ll get retrained. I have more complaints to send directly to IHG, but we won’t stay here again.
