Days Inn Martinsburg

I didn’t expect luxury for the price, but this place was disgusting. There were roaches, the floor in our room looked like it hadn’t been mopped, and the bedding had cigarette burns. There are no-smoking signs everywhere, yet when we came back around 11:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving night, a man was smoking at the front desk while talking with the attendant. I don’t know if he worked there. Do better.

We found this Martinsburg Red Roof Inn on our last road trip, and this time we drove an extra hour to stay there. That’s a lot for me 😂. The service is great and the rooms are clean. My lab leaves puddles after drinking, and when I wipe them up, the towels aren’t filthy. I’d sworn off Red Roof after two bad stays in other towns, where they used to be nice and clean but then had bugs and morning staff asking when we were checking out. I started staying elsewhere after that. I definitely recommend this Martinsburg Red Roof Inn.

We lasted 20 minutes before packing up and leaving for somewhere else. The mattress had what looked like blood stains, and cockroaches were roaming around the room. The front desk apologized and said they’d processed a refund, though I haven’t seen the credit on my card yet, so I can’t confirm it. The staff were nice enough, and the location just off the highway is okay. But the place needs a major cleaning and overhaul.

For $75 a night, all we got was a bed and a hot shower. The coffee was a pale brown liquid that tasted like it might have been made with used grounds twice, and there weren’t any amenities to speak of. There’s nothing exciting nearby either. The third-floor hallway carpet smelled like wet dog. Both room mirrors were dirty, and an old used razor was left in the dresser drawer. I even watched a bug crawl across the ceiling. The front desk was rude when I checked in, though I didn’t see them again for the next two days and everyone else was good. I felt uneasy about safety too. People who looked shady and homeless were outside where guests had to go to smoke, and it didn’t seem like keeping guests safe or clearing riffraff away was a priority. You get what you pay for, I guess. Never again. I’d pay the extra $25 for one of the other three hotels in the same center.
