Hampton Inn Marysville

The front desk attendant was friendly and apologetic when we asked to switch rooms, but the stay kept getting worse. In room 302, there was a cigarette butt on the tile in the hall by the bathroom. Room 308 had no cigarette butts, but crumbs were left under the vanity, there was mildew or mold in the shower corners and on the curtain, the sink drained poorly, and the shower soap dispenser was empty. At breakfast Saturday around 8:15, the regular coffee was being refilled or was missing, and the decaf was cold, probably from the day before. The orange juice came out watery. There weren’t many people at the hotel, but when my daughter got apple juice, dead ants came out with it. We threw it away, tried again, and more ants poured from the dispenser. We told the breakfast attendant and went elsewhere to eat. I’ve stayed at a lot of Hampton Inns around the country and usually choose them for consistent room quality. This one was a first disappointment. The rooms, carpets, bathrooms, and fixtures are showing their age. Some remodeling has happened, but it was poorly done. Based on this visit, the place felt closer to a one-star hotel, or a low-quality two-star, than the three-star quality I expect from most Hampton Inns. I’d avoid it if that’s what you’re looking for. Yikes, it was bad.

We drove four hours for a boxing competition, but Ron, the gentleman at the front desk, wouldn’t let me check in. He treated us like criminals and judged us based on our nationalities and skin color. We need to do better and treat people with dignity and kindness. For what it’s worth, I have videos.

The rooms were decent and clean, the location was nice, and the pool area was awesome. They’re pet friendly, too. The other staff were friendly, and they were a little flexible about when the pool closed. The highlight, though, was the little old white lady making breakfast. She was so helpful and respectful to everyone, even carrying food to the tables for older guests. I tried to tip her, but she wouldn’t take the money, so I had to toss it into a little room back there and run away. Five stars, especially for her.

My digital key assigned me room 203, right by the dumpster, even though hardly anyone seemed to be staying there. Pickup starts at 4:30 a.m. The air conditioner squeals, the toilet paper holder is coming off the sink, and the shower was nasty. The room felt downright gross and smelled like sweat in a high school locker room. I only added a star because the front desk team members were very nice. The lit sign outside was only half lit. Buyer beware!
