Holiday Inn Express & Suites Maryville

The beds and pillows were comfortable, and the rooms were very clean. What really made the stay was the staff: everyone was professional, kind, and friendly, with a personal touch that made guests feel respected. The price was great, too. I’d recommend this place for a comfortable stay and will come back when I’m in town.

The breakfast had so many choices that I went back for seconds, and the casserole was a favorite. The parking lot was clean and well lit, with easy access in and out. My room was on the third floor, where renovations were underway, but the desk clerk was upfront about it and offered to move me if the room didn’t suit me. That honesty stood out. I also slept better than I have in a hotel in ages. The only disruption was heavy roadwork outside starting around 6 in the morning. That’s not the hotel’s fault. Check-in and checkout were both handled warmly and professionally, and at check-in I was thanked for being a rewards member, which no other chain has done for me. The lobby was charming and clean, too. I felt like a VIP and would give the stay infinite stars if I could.

Andrew at the front desk made our whole hunting group feel welcome. He was kind and attentive, and he really lived up to Holiday Inn’s “Always You” motto and its goal of making every moment matter. The room was nice and everything was clean, but the staff, especially Andrew, was the best part. I’d encourage anyone in the area to stay here.

The desk clerk was polite and helpful, the lobby looked fine, and the hotel is near the university. That’s about all I can say in its favor. We usually stay at Holiday Inn Express when we travel, but I’d choose KC or Independence over the Maryville location next time. The room initially seemed okay, but it was old and dirty up close. There was dust or dried food on the nightstand, rusty vents, cracked walls, coffee rings on the bathroom vanity, a loose faucet, a broken tile on the floor, and splatters on the bathroom door that wiped away with a wet towel. The third-floor hallway was dark and musty, with holes in the walls and missing trim. My husband thought renovations might explain it, but reviews from more than a year ago also mentioned renovations. The bed itself was okay, but I barely slept. The heater popped all night, and I could hear ordinary conversations through the paper-thin walls. Kids ran and played in the hall after midnight, which may not have been the hotel’s fault. The elevator clanked and its floor tiles were curling up, enough to make me nervous about getting in. I’d want Holiday Inn Express to look closely at this property’s upkeep.
