Homewood Suites by Hilton Toledo-Maumee

We were expecting to be wowed after hearing this place was amazing, but left disappointed. The room door looked like something had been torn off, and the shower had no water pressure. The toilet seat wasn’t even attached. I told the on-duty desk person, but nothing was done. The hallway smelled like weed. Staff said they were in the process of removing people, but people were still smoking it through the next morning. Breakfast was nothing special, and the eggs tasted like rubber. The waffles were good, at least.

The only good thing about the room was the two big TVs. The rest felt dated and poorly equipped. The kitchen area was dark, there were hardly any utensils and no forks, but two corkscrews. The ice maker malfunctioned and filled the freezer with ice. The sheets felt like sand, and the bathroom was terrible: weak water pressure, a slippery tub with narrow sloping sides, and three shower dispensers, with the shampoo empty, conditioner broken, and only the body wash working. After arriving after 11 p.m. from a long day of travel, I just wanted to get to my room. I tried the digital key, but had to return to the desk for a card. The woman there said, “yeah, the digital key doesn’t work well”. I won’t stay here again.

We might stay again if we’re back in the area. The staff were welcoming, kind, and helpful, and caught and fixed a mistake we made that might have left us without some personal items. Our room was clean, spacious, and had comfortable beds, though it looked dated. The kitchen items were sparse and hadn’t all been put away. The location was quiet, with Starbucks and a few other restaurants nearby. Breakfast was plentiful and good, especially the fresh, sweet berries.

The staff were pleasant, and breakfast was very good. The lobby and breakfast area also looked clean. Those things kept this at three stars, because otherwise I might’ve given it one. We’re Hilton Honors members and always stay with Hilton. We were wary from the reviews, but chose this place because it was close to our daughter’s volleyball tournament. We brought Lysol wipes and spray and had to clean the room before we felt a bit more comfortable. It’s very outdated, and things seem to get patched instead of replaced. Behind the couch bed we found pizza, a sock, pizza sauce on the wall, and bits of trash. The toilet was disgusting and needed a real scrub. Sadly, the cleanliness made the stay too much of a hassle, so we probably wouldn’t return.
