Holiday Inn Express & Suites McAlester by IHG

Breakfast made our whole family sick. The omelets especially aren't worth eating. We booked for the pool and suite, but the pool and hot tub were out of service, and the bathroom had mold. They wouldn't refund us. We called the hotel directly, yet when we arrived they said the suite they'd given away couldn't be refunded because we'd booked through a third party. We'll never stay here again. Pick another hotel or an Airbnb and save your money. I wish I'd read the reviews first. This was the worst hotel stay I've ever had.

After a long drive, I checked in with my toddler and found the room hadn't been wiped down. It reeked of mildew and feet, and there was trash in the bathroom. I asked for another room and hauled all our bags across the hall, but the toilet there was disgusting, with hair and dried urine on the seat. When I went back to ask politely for a clean room, the assistant manager offered IHG rewards points for the inconvenience. I didn't care about points. I needed a clean place to sleep with my kid. The third room was on another floor. It looked unvacuumed, with debris on the floor, sticky stuff smeared across the desk, and what looked like mold or ashes in the toilet. I asked for a refund. The place was clearly unkempt, and I wasn't comfortable staying. I don't recommend it. We moved to the Hampton Inn next door and had a lovely stay.

The rooms were nice, but the front desk service varied depending on who was working. Breakfast didn't start until 6:30am, even though most guests had already left by then.

The room was huge, and everything in it worked. Breakfast was very good, better than many restaurant breakfasts I've had, and the location was excellent. The lobby and elevator were a little dirty because contract workers were coming and going in muddy boots. The fourth-floor ice machine wasn't working, though three others were. The outdoor pool and hot tub looked closed for winter, uncovered and full of leaves. Hopefully they'll be operating in summer. We had a very nice stay for a reasonable price.
