Texas Inn Downtown McAllen

We stayed here as a family and everything was fine, including the smell and the clean linens. I don't understand reviews like that. This is a very affordable hotel, so I'm surprised some people expect Sheraton luxury. We got a good rest and felt ready for the long journey ahead. The owners were especially kind and treated us like people. We'd entered the wrong arrival date in the app and paid again in cash at the hotel, but they immediately refunded us for the non-refundable booking. That was decent of them, and I appreciate it. It was very quiet at night, and Whataburger is 10 meters away. I recommend staying here.

I hated this place. The pool area was nasty, and the pool itself was full of leaves and algae. The doors failed to unlock 95% of the time, and there was barely any water pressure in the shower or sink. The rooms were dirty, and the staff didn't seem to care or help much. They were storing junk in the lobby, where the place to sit while waiting for service was a car's back-seat bench. The only good thing was the nearby shops and restaurants, which gave us options for getting away from the hotel. Disgusting.

The only good things in the room were the cold AC and TV. I booked a non-smoking room, but the mattress had burn holes, and the bathroom sink was stained with dead bugs. The pool was dirty and locked, so we couldn't use it, and there was no ice machine. The listing advertised $39 a night, but although only about three rooms were rented, the cheapest room cost $46. With tax and hotel fees, it came to $60.

Rooms were very clean and the customer service was really good.
