Best Western Horizon Inn

The room was okay, but the bed was very hard, and the electrical setup was strange. There were no outlets beside the bed or on the table between the beds. The one wall outlet only worked with the overhead light on, so we had to unscrew the bulbs to use it. Still, it's a cute place with a charming look. The front desk woman was especially sweet and friendly, and seemed to really care that we had a good room. There's a Black Bear Diner close by for eating out.

The walls are extremely thin. We could hear the neighbors talking normally and every car starting in the lot in the morning. Around 7 a.m., the laughing next door kept us from sleeping, though the neighbors weren't being unusually loud. The rooms are dated but clean. Water pressure was surprisingly good, and the hotel grade towels and sheets felt softer than those at the Hilton where we stayed the night before.

The first night was after a long drive. The smoke detector was missing from the ceiling, there were crumbs on the floor, stains on the couch and curtain, and hair all over the shower wall. We came back late the next afternoon and found a cockroach, so we packed up and left rather than stay another night. The office manager looked me in the eyes and promised a full refund to my card. Two weeks later there was no credit, and the office said they'd only given me one night's credit, which I never received. Customer service wasn't helpful and had no record of my earlier calls about it.

The rooms are really dated and need a lot of maintenance. The shower sprays all over, and the handles leak, soaking the towels and toilet paper. The floor in the accessible room was slippery too. A caretaker could get hurt looking after someone with a disability. Very disappointed.
