Super 8 by Wyndham Melrose

We left at 6 am, not 10, after staying only as long as DOT rules required. We’d checked in around 8 pm following an 11-hour drive, then had to stop for 10 hours. I told the front desk we’d be asking for a refund because the shower in room 101 was unusable and moldy. The staff member said she’d tell the manager. I never called the property; after I posted my review, the manager called me with an unpleasant response. Later, the manager blamed the mold on the water in that room, made excuses for the staff, and refused a refund. I’ve asked for one and still haven’t received a response, and I’m contacting Wyndham corporate. The lot was icy, the building was dirty and rundown, and the bed was horribly uncomfortable. We couldn’t find anyone at the desk when we first saw the room, and the staff member seemed bothered by our check-in. The location worked for us, but the place was gross. I’ve posted photos of the mold. Travelers beware.

I left and booked somewhere else down the highway. The lobby smelled of mold and smoke, and the woman who greeted me around 11 pm on aug 28 looked half asleep and was rude. I hadn’t been told when I booked the day before that they required an $80 cash deposit for damages and incidentals. In 46 years of hotel stays, I’d never had to pay a deposit for a room. The nearly empty lot had only two cars, so it seemed like they had issues.

I got to the room and was hit by what seemed like mold and smoke, which set off my asthma. After that, I went back to complain, and the employee said she’d adjust the price at checkout. I checked again while loading my dogs and bags into the car, and she assured me she’d handle it. But once I reached my destination, I saw she’d added more to the price and run another transaction. I called right away, then again three days later when the charges had gone through, and said I’d contact my bank and a lawyer if she didn’t fix them. Nothing changed. She seemed very comfortable doing this, as if it had happened before. I should’ve left after she swiped my card for the third time. I’d stopped there on Sep 2 2025 while driving from Seattle to North Carolina, hoping to sleep for a couple of hours. At the desk, an Asian lady who looked half asleep tried three times to enter my banking information manually and take out more money. She did take more, and I’m still disputing the charges with my bank. I also had to withdraw $80 for my dogs in case they caused any issues. This place felt creepy and unsafe. Stay away.

Our stay was enjoyable thanks to the friendly staff and clean room. The location made it easy to get to nearby attractions. I just wish breakfast had more variety.
