Holiday Inn Downtown Memphis by IHG

The worst part happened on my last day. I had been explicitly promised a 2 PM late checkout, but when I returned before then, housekeeping was in my room and had packed my belongings without my consent. The late checkout wasn't honored, and staff packing a guest's things is a serious breach of privacy and basic service standards. The air conditioning in my first room was so loud I couldn't sleep. I called maintenance several times and nobody came. After I was moved, the same problem continued. Maintenance came that time, but their fix only lasted temporarily. As an IHG Platinum Elite member, and previously Diamond, this was one of the most frustrating stays I've had. I expect more execution and respect as a loyal IHG customer. This fell well below expectations. I'd strongly caution anyone staying here to confirm everything twice and not rely on promised accommodations.

We picked this hotel for its proximity to the places we planned to visit in Memphis, but the condition of the property was disappointing. The room and bathroom looked dirty, with water stains beneath the toilet and a grimy sink, and there was a noticeable marijuana smell in the lobby. It also took over 10 minutes of running the tap before the water got warm. We moved to the Holiday Inn Medical Center, which was much cleaner and had excellent customer service.

The bathroom was dirty, and there was no hot water. A large stain on the comforter prompted us to ask for a replacement, but they brought up a thin, cheap blanket instead. There was water damage beneath a sprinkler, and the paint was peeling, so I suspect there may be mold behind it. Seriously gross. Stay away.

The location looked good and the hotel appeared beautiful when I booked through my IHG app. What we actually got was a room with no hot water, TV service, or internet, and there was no breakfast, snack shop, bar, or anything else. Management apologized and lowered the rate to $89 plus tax, $107 total. The next day, the valet hadn't come to work, and it took 30 minutes to locate our car keys. I'd hold off on booking online until they get things sorted out.
