Motel 6 Memphis, TN - Downtown

I arrived around 7 p.m. after driving all day from Atlanta, and the entrance was locked in below-freezing weather. I’d seen another review mentioning it, but it’s still ridiculous to leave the door locked that early. The staff member took his time on the phone and messing around instead of getting me settled. The room was crawling with roaches: on the bed, walls, floor, pillows, in the toilet and tub, and on the shower curtain. There were odd stains near the toilet, and what looked like blood in the snow outside. It was noisy at night, so don’t expect a peaceful rest. In the morning, after walking my dog, my key wouldn’t let me back in. The office door was still locked at 9 a.m., and the walk-up window sign said to come back in 10 minutes. It was freezing, and someone should have been there to help. Luckily I found a maintenance worker who let me in. Trust me and the other reviews, do not stay here.

This would almost be a funny story if it weren’t so gross. I got to Motel 6 on a cold December night and the clerk kept me outside the locked office, gesturing for me to pass my name and driver’s license through the window to him. I’m a middle-aged woman, hardly scary, and clearly freezing. He didn’t seem to care. I was too worn out from the road to go find somewhere else. The room had cigarette burns on the toilet, and the smoke detector had been removed. The air conditioner was blasting, but after I turned it off I was nearly burning up 15 minutes later because the heater was blasting too, beyond my control. After a lukewarm shower, I was barefoot for about five minutes before getting into bed, and my feet were filthy from the floor. So nasty. Apparently there’s money for heating and cooling at the same time, but none for fire safety, cleaning, repairs, or decent service.

The building is older, though the rooms have been updated and feel modern. My room was clean and there were no problems. I appreciated the overnight security and the peace of mind it gave me, even though we never felt unsafe.

The room was disgusting. There was a hole in the ceiling over the shower, cigarette burns in the sheets, and no proper blanket, just two sheets. The TV barely worked and the WiFi was terrible. The door locks looked like they were about to fall off. I’d only stay here if I had no other option at this price.
