Courtyard by Marriott Merced

During my three-day stay, I had to go to the second-floor linen closet every day to get clean fitted and top sheets. Nobody came in to change them, even though I never put up a sign. They also charged a random $30 fee and couldn’t explain what it was. The general manager, whose name I’m not sure of, got upset when I cried over an extra $430 charge and another Marriott stay that was supposed to have been canceled. He said it wasn’t a good look for the hotel that I was crying. I wouldn’t recommend this if you’re looking for a place to call a hotel.

The rooms are roomy, clean, comfortable, and have very good amenities. The main drawback is there’s no hotel breakfast, and the third-party option closes by 10.00am.

My king room was huge, quiet, smelled amazing, and had a comfy bed with soft linens. The bathroom was spacious and nicely lit, and I liked the complimentary shampoo and conditioner pumps in the shower. The front desk was super nice, the on-site Bistro Cafe served amazing food, and the rates were very reasonable. The location is convenient, just off the freeway and about 45 minutes from Mariposa. I’d have liked brighter lighting in the main room, and a 7x wall mirror in the bathroom would be a nice extra.

We spent one night at Courtyard by Marriott Merced on August 30. The room was clean and well kept, but road noise came through when the window was open, making it hard to sleep in the morning. The air conditioner was very old and loud too. Breakfast wasn’t included. The Bistro inside the hotel was terrible and the food cost far too much for its quality. We ordered eggs with sausage, and it was the worst breakfast we’ve ever had. The patties were overcooked, and the eggs were badly prepared, without seasoning or even oil. Two portions of eggs and two coffees came to $65, which felt unreasonable. The area was my biggest concern. The neighborhood felt very unsafe as soon as we drove into the city, and I didn’t feel comfortable walking to a nearby store because many people around looked suspicious. We managed for one night, but I wouldn’t choose Courtyard by Marriott Merced again.
