El Capitan Hotel

This hotel has a more interesting design than the usual chain, and I liked the rooms too. The showerhead is tall, and they supply great toiletries. Even with the highway, train tracks, and police station close by, the windows do an excellent job blocking outside noise. The room was very quiet, and the bed comfortable. The location is convenient, the garage next door offers covered parking, and pets are welcome. I’d definitely stay again on my next road trip through CA.

Native Son, the on-site bar and café, had amazing cocktails, and I enjoyed chatting with the bartenders. The front desk staff were welcoming and kind. I loved the hotel’s atmosphere and my eclectic, very clean and comfortable room, which had a mini fridge and a TV that could connect to streaming services. There are several hotels and bars nearby, along with a movie theater and a small arcade.

We’ve stayed here twice while in town for the local bike race, with friends and teammates. It’s within walking distance of downtown and other local businesses. The hotel is clean and bright, and the cheerful staff are helpful. This is the first hotel I’ve ever felt enthusiastic about, and we’ll surely stay again.

The rooms at El Capitan have been recently remodeled and feel restful, with pleasant decor and all the amenities. I especially liked the hotpot for making tea without picking up coffee flavor from a coffee maker. The bed was very comfortable, and there were plenty of outlets. Service at the front desk, in housekeeping, and at the Rainbird Restaurant was courteous and professional throughout. The staff made me feel welcome. The hotel is right in downtown Merced, so it’s easy to walk around and visit nearby restaurants too.
