La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Mesa Superstition Springs

Breakfast had the basics we wanted, sausage, a hard-boiled egg, waffles, oatmeal, and plenty more for starting the day. We were on the freeway side, so there was some noise, though it wasn’t too bad, and I do sleep with earplugs. The bed was super comfy and the room was really nice. I’d stay here again.

The breakfast was awful, basically sausage, hard-boiled eggs, and oatmeal packets with nothing to add. The machine coffee was just brown-colored water, and I actually saw clear water coming out. I won’t stay here again on my trips through the Phoenix area. The tub drain wouldn’t stay in place and just sat in the middle of the tub. We also had a paper-thin adjoining door, so the very loud neighbors sounded like they were in our room, despite my request for a quiet room without an adjoining door. I called the front desk at 10:30 p.m. The woman said she knew who I meant and could call them, or move us. I asked to change rooms, then she said she didn’t know if there was anything available. Huh? You’d just offered. I gave up and had to turn the TV up to drown the noise. Not a good experience for a longtime member.

My financial planner next door suggested this place. I was wary after reading the reviews and nearly booked another hotel, but my second-floor king room had no plumbing trouble. The hall smelled, though I wasn’t spending time there. The room was decent, apart from the AC waking me whenever it switched on. Breakfast now seems to include hot options, based on what I saw. It was okay.

I’ve stayed at La Quinta in other cities and had good experiences, but I wouldn’t book this one again. There are better hotels nearby for service and quality. I’d visited less than a year ago, and this stay felt quite different. The hotel was apparently full during a busy weekend, though I’d reserved a week ahead. Everything looked worn, and there was a musty smell throughout. Our room was dark, the beds were small, and the bathroom door couldn’t be locked. The shower pressure was weak and the water never got hotter than lukewarm. At night, highway traffic was audible. Breakfast was only waffles and toast.
