Motel 6 Mesa, AZ - Downtown

The room felt very old fashioned, and both lamps were out. The outdoor asphalt needs work, and the floor near the heating unit needs attention. Jeff was very rude to me the next day. He said rooms 126 and 123 were occupied by long time residents, and I asked when weekly rates would be available for all the homeless people staying here. I couldn’t post pictures this time. Still, the price is very affordable, one of the best in town after staying at many Motel 6 locations. I didn’t see any roaches or bugs, service had been awesome, the pet policy is great, and it was quiet enough to sleep. There’s no guard or parking permit needed, and they have accommodations. I just wish they’d at least provide complimentary bottles of water for guests. I’ve changed my rating from five stars to two.

It was quiet, and Jeff, the manager, was the only bright spot. The room was technically clean, but it was supposed to be non smoking and smelled so strongly of cigarettes that nothing I tried helped. I used Clorox wipes and Windex from my car, wiped the headboard with soap and water, cleaned the AC filters, and sprayed a lot of stuff. The bathroom vent was filthy, gnats came out of the sink, and there was a buildup of hair in the tub drain. The tub needs refinishing, and the towels were extremely low quality. No lotion, shampoo, or conditioner was provided. The walls are thin.

This is a resident hotel, and residents feed the several cats that hang around. The Eastside of the motel has a nice green space, and pets are free if you’re traveling with dogs. The place is falling apart, though. We found one roach while packing to leave. I check beds when I arrive, and those were the only clean things. The door was hard to lock, and both keys stopped working after we’d been out all day on our second night. The front desk got at least one key working again. We stayed two nights for two people, and they asked for both photo IDs. Motel 6’s response was added afterward. They don’t seem to read the whole review and give the same response to all bad reviews.

I’ve stayed at this location on and off for a few months, and in every room my wife and I encountered bed bugs. I have photos with timestamps. Tonight, in room 243, a roach dropped on my head, and I included a picture. Don’t stay here unless your standards are extremely low and you can tolerate a bedbug infestation. A lot is wrong with the rooms: beds often break or collapse, ceilings are falling in on the ground floor, and the upper floor showers have terrible pressure and little to no hot water. Windows don’t open in any room, the AC often doesn’t work, and toilets aren’t properly installed in half the rooms. There are many city code errors and violations, and the price is ridiculous for what you get. Most door locks are broken or missing, which is great for safety. Rooms have damage like broken towel racks and holes in walls, switches that smoke or spark, meth stains on floors and counters, and black mold everywhere. Nothing is as advertised. The only positives I can confidently point to are how close it is to the light rail station and that the room includes a free fridge and microwave. Other Motel 6 locations charge $20 extra for a room with a microwave and fridge. The office staff can be positive, depending on who’s working and the time of day.
