San Juan Inn

The door lock didn't work properly, so the room felt completely unsafe. The peephole was broken and someone had stuffed tissues into it instead of fixing it. Management still rents the room out despite these obvious security problems. That's extremely concerning. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

For one night, the room did the basics: it was clean and spacious, with good shower pressure, and worked fine for sleeping and washing up. Parking was included. There was no breakfast, fridge, or microwave, though they did offer morning coffee in the nearby restaurant, which was a nice touch. We were on the second floor and had to watch out for lots of small steps, with signs warning us. Late check-in can be a hassle. We arrived at 9:30 PM and got the key only because the manager happened to pull into the parking lot. A couple of hours later, I saw other late arrivals struggling to reach the night manager. If you might not make it before 8 PM, be aware of that. It's pricey for what you get, but Mexican Hat is a small town, so we had to adjust our expectations.

The setting is the real draw here. The property sits right along the San Juan River against a strikingly beautiful backdrop. There are nicely kept patio seating areas by the water, a separate smoking spot, and a path down to the river. We also saw some sweet little cats around. It was a good option for visiting Monument Valley National Park. Our room was clean and spacious, with a pleasant view and outdoor seating; we had no issues with the room or bathroom. Coffee and a microwave are available in the common area beside the San Juan cafe. The staff were friendly, informative, and courteous. When I left my AirPod in the room at checkout, they let me know right away and made sure I got it before leaving.

The cafe is handy, and the waitresses are nice, but the food is only average. The room felt outdated at best and wasn't very comfortable. For what it is, the price is too high.
