6080 Design Hotel by Eskape Collection

We had a lovely short family getaway and wished we could have stayed longer. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the beach is just one block away. We enjoyed the beach chairs and towels the hotel provided. I would have liked more detailed information about the available amenities, but when we asked, they accommodated us quickly.

The woman at reception the next day was more forthcoming and admitted that a building had gone up in front of the hotel, which used to have an ocean view. The receptionist I spoke with first, Jessica, I believe, had an answer ready before I’d finished asking about it: she said the ad promised ocean front, not an ocean view, and didn’t show the ocean. I opened the app to show her that it said ocean view and had ocean photos. Then she said it was a bay, not the ocean. I didn’t want to spend more brain cells on it. We paid for an ocean view and got a building in front instead. The ad was absolutely misleading. We also paid $40 for parking, which I guess is fine. In my opinion this is more like a service apartment than a hotel. The layout was odd: the couch was next to a sink and faced the TV, while the TV didn’t face the bed. From the balcony you could see a building. We didn’t spend much time there, so that’s all I can say about the room. I should’ve paid $25 more and stayed at the beach-facing Hilton. Lesson for next time.

The rooms come in different sizes, with balconies, and are well equipped. We were upgraded to a sixth-floor penthouse overlooking the bay. It’s mid-beach, with easy access to the free trolly for trips up and down Miami Beach. They provide portable beach chairs and umbrellas, and there’s a Starbucks at the base of the building. The small pool and gym were quiet and clean, with relaxing music. I liked that there weren’t many children during this part of our trip. The lounge chairs were comfortable, and there was no extra charge for shade umbrellas or cabanas like at other hotels along this stretch. There’s also grocery delivery if you need it. The staff were friendly and professional, and eager to help. We were ecstatic about moving from the Hilton to this cute little place.

I had cash taken from my room, so lock up your valuables. There’s no sense of privacy here. I’ve had bad experiences at other hotels before: when traveling for work after jaw surgery, my prescription was stolen from my room at a 5 start hotel. I don’t like housekeeping entering when I’m away, and I’m tidy and will ask if I need something. We stayed several days with the Do Not Disturb sign on the door every day, but housekeeping disregarded it and tried to come in anyway, even when we weren’t dressed. We kept politely telling them no, thinking it was a mistake. On the last day, while we were out and the sign was still up, they came in and took cash from a stack of papers I’d set aside for a specific purpose. What made it worse was the hotel’s response. We raised it several times and nobody followed up. The woman we spoke to at checkout was rude and just told us to email someone, who I’m sure won’t respond. We love Abae for its great customer service and expected something similar here, but this place isn’t like that. 6080 will regret it if small boundary violations turn into bigger, more expensive thefts. One shout-out to the valets, though: they were always polite and speedy, and the car didn’t get a scratch.
